I do this at another forum but I figured I might as well copy/paste here
What did ya'all get this week?
this week's selections:
Booster Gold #7
Avengers: The Initiative #10
Serenity: Better Days #1
Countdown to Final Crisis 7
Salvation Run #5
Amazing Spider-Man #553
Green Arrow and Black Canary #6
Mighty Avengers #10
Fantastic Four #555
Wolverine #63
Screamland #1
Superman #674
Evil Dead #3
My weekly comic awards
Book of the week
Screamland #1 - a very funny look at where the old school horror movie monsters would be if they existed today. This issue centers on Frankenstein meeting with his agent regarding a big comeback picture.
runner-up: Wolverine #63 - While most of the stories regarding Wolvie's past have been lackluster so far, tying in his past with Mystique as their modern day cat and mouse battle rages is very well written by Jason Aaron. Mystique is nothing if not resourseful and cunning. And next issue promises to be controvercial if Wolverine is gonna do what it implies he's going to do at the end of the book
Moment of the week
Avengers: The Initiative #10 - Taskmaster and Ant-Man avoid the big battle to watch episodes of "Chuck" on Ant-Man's iPod
runner up Salvation Run #5 - Catwoman sells out Martian Manhunter to save her own ass from the newly unified villains
second runner up Screamland #1 - Frankenstein's Monster wasted his fortune starting a pornsite featuring monsters, complete with Godzilla webcamming with a fat goth girl
third runner up Countdown 7 - Jimmy Olsen steps up as leader of the main people in Countdown (Mary Marvel, Kyle Rayner, Harley Quinn, etc.) as the whole world has forgotten who they are and orchestrates a break-in at Cadmus
Quote of the week
Wolverine #63 - (Mystique to Wolverine) "Oh, I Can keep this chase up forever, Darling. Can you? Don't the Avengers need help saving the world? Or maybe one of the other half-dozen groups you run with?"
runner-up Mighty Avengers #10 (Dr. Doom to Iron Man) - "A lot more people hate you than hate me."
second runner-up Amazing Spider-Man #553 - "Is there an introductory super-villain promotion going on? Because you're my third newbie this month!"
Worst thing I read
Evil Dead #3. Goddamn this "reimagining" of the original Evil Dead is bad. The pictures are pretty but that's about it. Seriously. Just awful.
runner-up Green Arrow and Black Canary #6. I am starting to understand why Judd Winick gets a bad rap with dialogue like, "You are going to have to push back that ocean of rage, that monsoon of emotion that kicks around in your body like a rabid bear on steroids." I'll probably stick it out until it's revealed who shot/kidnapped Connor Hawke (Green Arrow's son) even though the conclusion left me a lot less interested in this whodunnit.
