Kearney attends Springfield Elementary but then he drives a car and has a son about 3 years old, filed for divorce and dated Jimbo's mother. How is this possible? Aren't elementary schools for kids up to like 13? how old is he suppose to be?
I know this is just a cartoon but I find this awkward. Also I haven't payed attention to newer episodes so sorry if I missed an explanation.

He has to be at least as old as Otto. I recall Otto asking him, "Kearny, we were in third grade together, what are you still doing here?"

I always thought it was just a big running joke for the writers... Here's something from Wikipedia...
Kearney (voiced by Nancy Cartwright) is one of Springfield Elementary's many bullies. He has a buzz cut, and wears a white torn shirt along with studded wristbands. Although he looks and sounds to be around Jimbo or Dolph's age, he has a young son. It's not known who the mother is, but Kearney says that his divorce was hard on his son, although he got through it okay. He was in third grade with Otto Mann, celebrated the United States Bicentennial, remembers the Watergate scandal, and shaves his beard, though he describes himself as "a teenager, and the parent of a teenager." At one time, he dated Jimbo's mother, claiming that "she came onto me!", and as a result he was beaten up by the rest of the gang and Bart Simpson[1]. His last name was revealed on the season 18 episode, "24 Minutes".
So yeah, I think it's just a running gag.

He also randomly appeared inside Moe's one episode, implying he's at least 21 (unless Springfield is somewhere that allows 18 year olds to drink).
But yeah, it's always just been a running gag.

But yeah, it's always just been a running gag. It's not completely unlike how the one Wayans' kid is younger than him in Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood (phew...) It shouldn't have to add up completely, then it would cease to be a cartoon.

Poor guy, will he ever graduate? That's the thing I'm always wondering. Also if he is that old, should he be arrested for beating up kids. And How is it possible to be older than your dad?

Something about time travel... a robot, a one eyed lady, a lobster creature, Harry S Truman and suger cookies.... oh wait that's how to be your own grandfather.

Well in the future Kearney becomes vice principal.
I'm just thinking Kearney is more of a fAculty member

The whole Simpson's timeline is pretty messed up these days. Really I stopped caring unless its something really bad like that 90's episode. (which wasn't bad in and of itself just unnecessary to do that)

There was even an episode, where he tried to purchase beer at the Kwik E Mart, and apparently used a fake ID, and called Apu "young man"

There was even an episode, where he tried to purchase beer at the Kwik E Mart, and apparently used a fake ID, and called Apu "young man" Except, that doesn't necessarily suggest he isn't old enough - just that he has no ID and no legal means of getting one. It could just mean he has no birth certificate.
