I mean today, everyone knows all the cliches and everyday sarcastic stuff to make fun of. Any videos anywhere?

In-laws and safe stuff like that. Then Mort Sahl and Lenny Bruce and other came and started doing political and dark stuff.

Same thing that comedians joke about now politics, religion, sex, racial humor. The main difference is that comedians back then had to be much more clever about the way they delivered off color jokes.
They couldn't just come out and try to shock the audience into laughter . Go watch some of Bob Hope's stand up on youtube. Johnny Carson is another great example of the throw back style of stand up.

Wasnt stuff like that "taboo" or whatever bullshit close minded people in the 50s just decided? I mean it doesnt really matter how they delivered it. They still said it, and obviously enough that people got it...

Almost forgot Phillis Diller is another great stand up from yesteryear. Rodney Dangerfield also had a throw back style even though he would get a bit blue at times.

They were just stuck trying to hang on to the outdated values of the Victorian era. Eventually Lenny Bruce came along and just started straight out saying what he was talking about instead of dancing around with words. Once opened the door everybody ran through it.

Just because they weren't as blatant or as vulgar about it as we are now-a-days, doesn't mean it didn't happen. You're basing your ideas of what was done and said on a sterotype. Just like 50 years from now people wouldn't be able to know how we really lived just because they watch King of Queens, you can't base a whole society on the "norms" that are portrayed from TV and other media. I have an old picture of my grandfather flipping off the camera when he was in his teens for instance.

I refuse to believe that wasn't a true to life representation of an era!

*paraphrasing* "A couple got married, and then they had 2 kids, twins. They named 'em Adolph and Rudolph. Then, a little while later, they went at it again, had 2 more twins...Getoff and Stayoff."
"Here's to cherries, like a balloon...one prick and boom!"
Both of those are from Redd Foxx.

'Yeah, give me some of that fake grass, and some model soldiers, and TEN THOUSAND TUBES OF AEROPLANE GLUE.'
I'm pretty sure that's a misquote. I wish I could remember it, because it makes me laugh so much.

So..... what about these 1,950 Comedians? Oh, they all suck.... The style was more one-liners, which could make for a better set, as the comedians were able to riff on the audience, respond to hecklers, etc much quicker and funnier than a lot of comedians that have a huge "set" of material they do. The 1950s gave us Don Rickles. The 1950s were very good for comedy.

Go to YouTube and look up Jack Benny and Frank Nelson. This was one of the best comedy teams ever.

Comedy is about so much more then just crossing lines. You can cross lines and not be funny, and you can not cross lines and be hilarious.

We all know color didn't come around until the late 60s
