'Robocop' Remake Still in MGM's Cards? This afternoon AICN posted a piece of a press release from MGM Studios that lists a bunch of potential upcoming projects - one them is a remake of ROBOCOP. No details were given, but the fact that this is included in a release confirms the validity of the rumors floating around the web this past year. More soon. The original '87 movie took place in a dystopic & crime ridden Detroit, where a terminally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him. www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/11626

You got it, hollywood won't take chances on new projects, so lets take something that was good from say 21 years ago and remake so we can make alittle bit of extra cash. I would mark if they somehow got the footage of robo saving sting in the movie some how ;D

Um, why not do a sequal? Why does it have to be a remake? The film is barely 21 years old and theres nothing wrong with it.

Remake it?!? OH HELL NO! Robocop is fine just the way it is. There's no way they'll be able to recapture the magic of the original. It just wouldn't be the same.

Actually, I'll take back the Paul Walker thing. They'll probably get The Rock, or, god forbid, Vin Diesel.
Can you imagine Robocop's lines delivered in that weird accent he has.

"It's 21 years old, DO IT AGAIN!" Exactly. Why remake a classic? I mean, this was perhaps the role that Peter Weller will be remembered for, and Kurtwood Smith as Clarence Boddiker was dead on. I always think of what the character of Red Forman would be like on That 70's Show if he acted more like Clarence? I can tell ya, there would be no shenanigans going on in that house ... unless it was his shenanigans.

One thing that is definitely going to be lost in whatever remake they do is the satire. No way is any writer going to nail that without making it look ridiculous.
All I can think of is a bunch of MGM executives sitting around going "OK, how can we make this version more violent and gritty than the first one?!" Once again, completely missing the point.

No, what they should re-make is Robocop 3. As, in, make a new Robocop where he wakes up from one of his nightmares and realizes all of part 3 was just a nightmare. Part one and two are fine.

Maybe it's just another "reboot" of sorts which seem to be increasingly popular these days. Having 4, 5, 7, X after a classic title doesn't fly anymore, so they just do an "all new" version and go on as if the first 3 or 5 or 10 never happened. Similar to a remake, but not quite.

All of the recent attempts at RoboCop sucked big time. I would guess that any remake would also suck. Big time.
