Okay, so I have a DELL latitude laptop computer (no warranty) and after just 3 long days, it decided to crash. When I turn it on, it says the following:
windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt\windows\system\32\config\system
press "r" at main screen to repair.
When I press R all it does is bounce back to that screen. I do not have any restore discs. I have tried to get help online, but can't find help in "laymans terms". anyone can help?

Your windows installation is corrupted, either due to software issues (windows sucks) or hardware failure (hard disk has some damaged clusters right where windows start-up files are stored.
Either way, you'll need to reinstall windows from scratch.

tried tapping f8 when the computer boots up to get to the recovery console and do a system restore? well, might be f8 or f11, some computers differ from others. www.dslreports.com/faq/3546

Ugh, the same exact thing happened to me last month TWICE.
The first time I just did what Generic poster #4672 did and everything was all good.
Then about a week later it happened again and come to find out, it was some sort of virus, so a visit to my friendly neighborhood Best Buy repair guy was in order.
Meh.

yeah to be sure it wont happen again a full reinstall is probably the best way to go, if it happens again it means your hard drive is borked.
Same thing happened to my mate, he bought one of those cheap 300 quid tesco specials, and tbh i could have built the same machine for about 100 quid.
