Gigwise reports: Phil Collins, known best for his role as the lead singer and drummer in Genesis, appears to have dramatically announced his retirement from the music industry. In an interview with The Times newspaper, Collins said he had no plans to tour again and that any future writing was unlikely to become an album. Course he has retired before, but who knows

Musicians come out of retirement about as often as Terry Funk. [/obvious joke]
I like Phil Collins for the most part but I can't say there's anything he's done within the last... decade(?) that I even am aware of.

Thank God. Now let's just hope Peter Gabriel keeps touring just to rub it in.

What has he done lately? Who has he been writing songs for? I honestly dont remember him being in the news since maybe 90s? He's been doing music, some of it for Disney soundtracks, and awhile back he did announce he was retiring from touring-he put out a DVD called "Finally...The first farewell tour" which of course played on the joke that people don't really retire when they say they will. Then he got back with Genesis and they have a live dvd coming out

Maybe it's good overall. I enjoy his older stuff but not so sure how a modern Collins would sound.

I actually would like to see him put out another big band record. Don't think it will happen though.

Damn, this sucks. I LOVE all the songs he did for the Disney's Tarzan soundtrack. The first Disney movie to have songs not sung by the characters in the movie(only a small piece of You'll Be in My Heart was sung by one of the characters in the movie).

Yeah.... hearing him say "I'm retiring from music" sounds the same as "I don't plan on doing anything for a while"
If you're been creative and an entertainer for as long as he has, it's a tough bug to break. I could definitely see him sitting on the sidelines for a while without making commitments, but... if he's healthy enough to do it, I could definitely see him returning to the stage or studio in the future.
