The future displayed in Idiocracy would suck ass too. (Although, the prospect of getting "something else sucked" at Starbucks is a bit enticing ;D)

Either A Canticle for Leibowitz or Brave New World. Because, let's face it, either the world is going to end in an Augustinian cycle of rebirth, or it's going to become a Fascist State which is beyond challenge and treats the citizen as little more than a drug controled cog. Yeah only in Brave New World everyone's happy that way, it's not something ruled by fear. I originally thought it was dystopic too but it actually isn't. It's just pointing out that you could have a utopia at the expense of a lot of things deemed "normal" So basically promiscuous sex and free drugs at the expense of moving up anywhere in society and not being in charge of your own destiny, as it were Anyway I'd probably say that the future in "Equilibrium" is pretty bleak, it's like Brave New World (drugs controlling emotion) only with the actual fascism in place and the severe hatred of the arts I disagree. Brave New World invented the dystopia, that was Huxley's point. A future not based on an European version of progress but an alien American parody. You see, prior to BNW, Future Utopias were always good things, and why shouldn't they be. Science and Technology would fuel Progress which would result in a more comfortable standred of living for humanity, much like a continuation of the Victorian Age. This was an ironic twist, where yes, humanity is happy, but most of the things that make us human are gone, ie family, religion, art, science and literature. Just because biker gangs aren't going around, doesn't mean it's not a dystopia. You have to remember what defines a classic Future Utopia, in order to define a Dystopia. It's a future society where technology is able to create a world where productive labor is done by robots, leaving humanity free from poverty, and by extention the the negative traits associated by it, changed by it's environment and able to focus on it's own betterment. Think Star Trek, basically. Dystopia or a Negative Utopia, on the other hand, are similar in all ways, except they posess some fatal flaw that makes them an oppressive society, similar to the dichotomy of the Jedi and the Sith, or the Philosopher King and the Despot of Plato's Republic. Oh, and I guess Star Trek isn't that great either. Remember, 600 Million People have to die in a nuclear war soon.

1984 (the book) would be nastiest for me. "WWE is at war with ROH. WWE has always been at war with ROH."

Brave New World/or 1984. BNW - Everything that makes humans truly happy have been warped or demolished, or have been so dysfunctionally disturbed into bad things. Families don't exist, people are made from machines, and what's written in the book about children.. ugh. Such a disturbing book. It's what jaypeas said. Yeah, people are happy...but the price for it is infinitely too much.
As for 1984, that whole book twisted my sleep for a month. The Thought Police are the absolute worst. There is no creativity or individuality, you can't think outside of what your government tells you, and Room 101 is pure nightmare material.

That one with the warring atheist factions and the intelligent otters. Eating clams off of your belly's no good? Actually, I hate clams. Bad future. The Twelve Monkeys one is my pick. Mainly cause I didn't really know what was happening in that future time, but wearing that big plastic outfit to get around in would make me feel like a couch in my grandmother's apartment.

Double Dragon, Super Mario Brothers, a lot of these movies meant for kids came with stupid dystopian Los Angeles and New York settings.

The Time Machine - Book by HG Welles with a couple of film adaptions - Something happens in the future and humans become food for creatures that live underground.
Demolition Man - What would happen if a Fundamentalist becomes in charge. Looks good in the film but can just imagine living in World with no red meat, alcohol, swearing, fun toys, video games, physical sex etc etc etc and advertising jingles on radio 24/7. Good thing guns would be outlawed other wise I would be in the Clock Tower with the sniper rifle. Scary.

I am shocked that I got no support for not liking the future of Planet of the Apes. Hell, in the end of the second movie there IS no future after it.

I wouldn't like to live in Blake's 7 world.
Since this is a good place to talk about it, who of those in EWT like my character, Joe One? I based him off of 1984.

But then in the fifth one, it seems everyone is happy. Except for Caesar's statue of course, for some reason it starts crying. WHO TURNED ON THE FOUNTAIN?

Demolition Man (good god that would suck..it would be like living in Salt Lake City)
1984
Escape from LA (At least the government in Escape from NY wasn't fundamentalist)
Idiocracy wouldn't really bother me that much, seeing as I live in So Cal and the people here aren't really that far off.

Idiocracy is one of the scariest movies I've seen lately.
I have a feeling it's not going to take 500 years to get to that point.

I found it hard to believe in Demolition Man that no one had committed murder before Simon Phoenix was thawed out. Come on in that environment someone would of just snapped.
