Just watching Children of Men which has a Future that's pretty damn bleak I got to wondering which movie do you think has the worst vision of the Future? Blade Runner or Escape From New York both look like Futures I wouldn't want to live in for example. Got any other Futures you hope won't happen?

The future displayed in Planet of the Apes is even more of a downer.

If you're a woman, then the dystopia of The Handmaid's Tale would suck for you. (It's a book.)

Living in Oceania in "1984" doesn't seem like it would be too fun either.

Either A Canticle for Leibowitz or Brave New World. Because, let's face it, either the world is going to end in an Augustinian cycle of rebirth, or it's going to become a Fascist State which is beyond challenge and treats the citizen as little more than a drug controled cog.

Yeah only in Brave New World everyone's happy that way, it's not something ruled by fear. I originally thought it was dystopic too but it actually isn't. It's just pointing out that you could have a utopia at the expense of a lot of things deemed "normal" So basically promiscuous sex and free drugs at the expense of moving up anywhere in society and not being in charge of your own destiny, as it were Anyway I'd probably say that the future in "Equilibrium" is pretty bleak, it's like Brave New World (drugs controlling emotion) only with the actual fascism in place and the severe hatred of the arts

Oceania, most definitely. The idea of a Thought Police is absolutely frightening.
Blade Runner's future doesn't seem too fun either, but it's bright and flashy, so I'd be easily amused.

The one where they're all idiots and the US President is a former wrestler.
At least the world in "serious" dystopic futures is controlled by smart, albeit cruel and greedy, people. But living in a world of utter stupidity, where an IQ of 100 makes an Einstein out of you is the scariest of all the dystopies I've ever read/watched.

But it's a toss up of either that or 1984....seriously the thought police creep me out... And quick shout out to Children of Men, great film that doesn't seem to get much recognition....

Dark Angel - Almost exactly how I imagine the future to be. There's a great line where they make a comment about the times when people could sit around drinking expensive coffee.
I do think today will look like a utopia in about 50 years time.
Futurama- They still have floppy disks?

I would agree with that, but its set soo far in the future compared to the other nominations in this topic that i dont think it could be counted
