You've probably noted that virtually ever movie that comes out these days is later released on DVD as "unrated", however most of the time unrated doesn't exactly translate into loads of violence or even anything worth noting, AvP comes to mind for example.
There are however flicks that come off way better then the theater version, Land of the Dead, the Dawn of the Dead remake and The Grudge are great examples of flicks that got a lot better with the unrated DVD version.
Any other movies that actually benefited from an Unrated DVD?

Most American films do not benefit....but most foreign films do.
13: GAME OF DEATH comes nicely to mind.....as does INSIDE.

Live Free or Die Hard.
The Unrated (Real) version actually felt like a Die Hard movie.

american pie - I mean hey it's the thing that STARTED the whole unrated dvd's fad.
also I'd like to say walk hard since they have full frontal male nudity. that's definitely warranted for an unrated dvd.

King Arthur - a relatively forgotten Clive Owen movie released in 2004. The Unrated version is practically a whole other movie and I think it's pretty unfortunate that most people were probably soured by the PG-13 release.

I Spit On Your Grave: Millenium Edition. As unrated as you can get. On the other hand the Unrated Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 hardly seems unrated at all. I think there were two or three scenes trimmed to get an R-rating that are put back in.

The Jackass movies. There's really no point in watching the censored version.

Those old movies from the 60s to the 80s that got cut up because of the times they came from. Since you mentioned AVP I liked to add it is my belief there is another cut of AVP where the predator and the female heroine get it on in the end.

What was the difference in the unrated American Pie? The only one I know of is the pie-humping scene, where the unrated version shows him laying across the kitchen counter (and showing naked ass) rather than humping while standing up. Was there anything else added?

If that is true, I am frightened...and strangely aroused. excuse me.

Team America for the extended puppet sex. I KNEW IT! I f***ING KNEW IT! I KNEW THERE WAS ANOTHER VERSION. About three years ago I saw Team America for the first time, downloaded on a mate's computer, and it had an extended puppet scene with piss and crap in it, and any time I mention it, everyone looks at me like I'm a freak, and when I watched it on DVD with friends, it wasn't there. I thought I was going f***ing nuts!

Supposedly it didn't make it into the UK DVDs... I gotta say, good. It's one of my favourite films, I wouldn't want all that shit (no pun intended) getting in the way.
