Bear with me, I was just informed of this and am trying to get my thoughts around what I want to say, how I want to say it, but I feel like since he had friends here, and was a big part of the forum, I should let everyone know.
A 'real life' friend of Dan Denholt, aka Double D Dudley and Deus EX Machina, was kind of enough to drop me a line a little bit ago after he had seen his friend's name in a thread asking about him sometime last week while looking for various mentions online. Very, very few of you may know that Dan had dealt with a bout of cancer, around the time our friend John Tenta was dealing with his own. On March 30th, Dan lost that battle. His funeral was apparently on Friday night, and Dan's friend Allan had heard Dan talk about the hassle of moderating this place enough that sometime after his funeral this weekend he made his way here and was kind enough to let us know.
On a positive note, I had known he'd been engaged for a bit and was really looking forward to things looking up in his life. Allan told me that Dan did get married a month preceding his death which is both happy and tragic at the same time, but thankfully Allan told me that Dan's last few years were the happiest of his life. I am glad my friend's last few years on Earth held joy for him. He deserved it. He was 31 years old.
It's strange on some level considering someone a friend when you've never met, but Dan was that for me, we shared laughs with the whole nBo thing and became buddies, keeping in touch with each other's lives, hopes, fears etc; and he was a great sounding board to me when events in my own life spiraled out of control just a few years back, and things happened that only a very few people know about, but Dan was one of them. I'll forever thank him for being an ear when I sorely needed one, and making me laugh at a time when I often thought I never would again.
Thank you Allan for letting us know about our friend when you didn't have to. Thank you Dan for being my friend.
Love ya buddy, May you Rest in Peace,
