Dear John,
I know you're a fan of 80s music, and I was wondering if you've ever heard of the band called They Might Be Giants?
TMBG consists of co-frontmen John Flansburgh and John Linnell. They have been together for over 20 years now (since 1982) playing a mix of alternative-pop-rock, with an accordion as a staple instrument. Their songs rarely contain curse-words, but deal with totally random topics...which is part of their goofy cult-charm.
You may have heard some of their songs before - "Particle Man", "Istanbul", and "Birdhouse In Your Soul" were early-90s hits. They wrote and perform the theme song to FOX's "Malcolm In The Middle" ("Boss Of Me")which earned them a Grammy award. If you wanted to choose one album as a starting point, the best one would be "Flood", which contains Birdhouse, Istanbul, and Particle Man. Or, you could go for their 20th Anniversary 2-Disc box set, "Dial-A-Song", which has a more diverse track list of overall classics.
Well, they're my favorite band of all time, and I thought I'd spread the word on them. If you give them a try, I hope you enjoy.
