My Norton antivirus detects them but doesn't delete all of them. Are any of the free removers trustworthy? If so please inform me. Otherwise, a shopping I must go. 'Quake

Hello Quake, I had a huge problem with adaware and spyware as it was killing my machine and just rendering it useless. I got to RIT, and everything here is based around my computer, so this was a huge problem for me. The problem was my browser, it just didn't really block anything at all. I used Internet Explorer, but I switched over to Firefox when it came out, and its been great for me. Adaware usually does the job and is the best free spyware killer out there, and its really really effective when you pair it up with Mozilla Firefox internet browser. Its the best out there right now, especially when it comes to killing ads and spyware. You can set it up so it automatically blocks needless scripts, and it asks you if you want to download anything onto your computer, instead of just automatically loading everything on a webpage, which is waht IE does. When you upload Firefox, you can get an extension for it called Adblock that allows you to manually block ads and scripts directly from their sources, so you're not only blocking that ad, but every ad and script thats sent from that source. I use that and Adware, which someone posted above me, and I keep my virus scan updated,...my machine is bulletproof. If you don't already have it, downloading Firefox and using that as your primary browser in conjunction with Adaware should eliminate almost every problem with adware and popups. www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Haha, sorry that sounded like a sales pitch, Quake....I'm just working on a degree in Web Design, and my computer was rendered almost useless because I kept picking up trojan horse after trojan horse when I was out on the web, and spyware killed my machine for well over a year. Firefox ended up being a Godsend for an Internet career oriented person, so its almost like my unofficial duty to recommend it to people that get their computer bombarded by spyware.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I had some Spyware trouble as well.
I now have Norton antivirus, Firefox and Ad-Aware. I hope it works.

Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta seemed to work well for me. It was still a pain in the ass to remove iSearch, tho. Anything else, it can handle pretty easily. Spybot Search & Destroy is also pretty good. For popups, I have Popup Stopper, which you can get at www.panicware.com, and there is something called Trojan Remover (type that in to Google, and it should be the first page that comes up) that is specifically designed to handle trojans and viruses that have write-protected themselves to make it impossible to remove manually.

Ad Aware is worth getting. I've never had a problem with it. Window Washer is another great product. It erases the history of your web browser, media player, etc. This is really handy if you want to protect sensitive information from prying eyes.

Hey folks my first Post. I thought i would make it a usefull one Mr. Tenta you do NOT want to install adaware! they have recently started allowing a few kinds of spyware. Spybot is the best one out there. Also you might want to try avast antivirus instead of Norton. Both of these programs are free to download and use.

Firefox browser and good adware deleter,(any of the ones mentioned above) should work, as Firefox catches a lot of crap before it even makes it onto your computer, and the adware deleter takes care of whatever does make it through. Internet Explorer just downloads everything and doesn't filter out any junk, and your computer really gets backed up because of it, even when you do run spybot and adaware every once in a while. Its just a better performing browser, and saves a lot of hassle of having to run Adaware and spybot every time you go onto the internet.

Hey Quake. I use norton and ad-aware which have been mentioned. I also use these following www.spybot.info/en/index.htmlsimilar to ad-aware, when I was having problems, msn recommended this as well, it detects some that ad-aware misses and vice versa www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster is also good, it blocks them from coming in to begin with

Ya quake, I'd agree with that, the key is to have a couple on your computer. Usually one will pick up the most of them but another can pick up those it misses. I have spybot search and destory, adaware, and McAfee virusscan 8 which has a spyware component as well as a virus scanner (although my college gives it out for free so maybe thats not your best bt if you want something free, although good virus protection helps too). I know that sound like a lot of trouble running a number of different programs but if you run them occassionally and only leave one on full time you should be fine. Adware/Spyware blockers are like toiletpaper, can you ever really have too much around. Nate ;D

Ad Aware and Spybot are both good products, but both will miss a lot of spyware. If you're willing to part with some cash, then get a copy of Pest Patrol. The price is in the $40-50 range, but it will find and remove pests that Ad Aware and Spybot have missed.

Spybot and Adaware are good, the only ones they seem to miss are Kazaa and Limewire stuff. But they are harmless..I think.
