I'm trying to read all the good Batman I can before I see The Dark Knight in two months, and with all of the classic stuff being reprinted among the hype, I'm faced with a question, The Long Halloween, or Joker's Last Laugh?
This will make me sound sort of poser-y but typically if it doesn't involve Joker, I'm generally uninterested (he's just one of my favorite villains, always has been since childhood), so I'm sort of iffy about The Long Halloween considering it's mostly a Two Face story I believe, but it does look genuinely interesting. The Joker's Last Laugh looks...meh at best on first glance, which is why I sought a few opinions here first before I got it.
Since reprint-o-mania has started I've read The Killing Joke (loved it) and The Man Who Laughs (also loved it), sooo, yeah. Any other suggested reading? Thinking of the Gotham Knight novel too.
*edit* this was meant to go in Off Topic.

I polished off "Long Halloween" in like a week or so, and I think I've got the follow up, "Dark Victory", on back order. And, to kind've answer your question, it was awesome, so I highly recommend that one! (Can't say anything about the other, being as to how I didn't read it)

Well, this will be moved, but regardless.
Despite the fact that its not neccesarily a Joker story, the Long Halloween is the superior book. In fact, it does kind of influence the upcoming film, according to reports. I'd definitely get that. If you want a Joker origin story, you've read the two best there are out there.

Why is this in WWE Current? Didn't realize I was in WWE current when I posted. thus the edit at the end of the post But yeah, The Long Halloween it is, then. It's a lot of book for the price, and the art seems to be pretty good looking. Glad to know Dark Victory comes after this, might have to check it out afterwards. I also contemplated Arkham Asylum but the art style in it sort of bothered me, in the same way that the Venom vs. Carnage one shot art style bothered me.

Arkham Asylum is fantastic if you can accept the art style, I'm not crazy about it either, but the story itself is pretty great.

LONG HALLOWEEN by a mile. By a few miles, actually.
JOKER'S LAST LAUGH was a nice idea, but it was marred by (a) Chuck Dixon totally phoning it in (he left DC not long after this IIRC) and (b) incredibly uneven art - each issue was done by someone different. Pete Woods and Rick Burchett were the highlights, but the unevenness really ruined the flow.

Long Halloween had a major influence on the first one, but not all of it could fit, so I'm guessing the "leftovers" will be touched on in The Dark Knight.
SPOILER ALERT
Like how in the six minute thingy, the Gotham National Bank being a front for Falcone's money laundering racket. They never come right out and say it, but the shotgunning teller screams, "You know who I work for?!?! You and your friends are dead!!!!", so I'm guessing that'll happen
