For me, I can get most of the way through with little to no problems, but I always meet my end at Mystic Caves Zone Act 2, usually on the boss. I've beaten him a few times but it's always been a major pain in the arse, because if you die, there's almost no rings before or after the checkpoint.
Odd topic I know, it came to me in the shower o.O

When I was a kid, I didn't know about Spin Dashing (I lost the manual somewhere), so the Casino Night Zone boss was the final destination for me for a while.

Level 7 (I think). I can't remember the name of the zone, but I was pretty crappy with the boss on that oil platform zone.

This. Fighting both Metal Sonic and a giant Robotnik with NO rings at all was a pain in the ass when I was a kid. It felt great when I finally beat the game.

For me, I had no problems at all with the bosses - but still, sometmes to this day, I die due to a time limit on Oil Ocean Zone, Act 2 - the whole zone is set in such a nonlinear way that I always get lost in the damn place.
Btw, the Sonic games kick arse - to this day, I still don't know if there's a better game for my money than the complete version of Sonic 3.

When I was a kid, it used to be at Chemical Plant when the water would rise and I'd always drown. Then it was the Winged Fortress boss. Then it was Death Egg at Silver Sonic. Then it was at the Eggsterminator. Funnily enough, I can beat the game without dying at all, now.

It depends. Sometimes it's the Casino Night boss, sometimes it's Metropolis, sometimes it's Wing Fortress, and it's always Death Egg should I ever get that far. I'm ashamed to admit it's the one original Sonic game I've never completed without either cheating or using the 'normal' mode on Sonic Jam.

usually i can get through no problems, but i do end up dying at times at Metal Sonic in Death Egg.
Robotnik's easy, Metal Sonic can be the real pain in the ass.

Best rule of thumb for Sonic 2 is that you should always try to work upward. The non-linear levels are the best place for this (Oil Ocean Zone comes to mind). But as long as you're trying to move upward to higher platforms, it always seems to get you to the end. I'm always in the Death Egg with the last boss. Everything else I can handle, even when horribly out of practice since forever ago. For me, I can get most of the way through with little to no problems, but I always meet my end at Mystic Caves Zone Act 2, usually on the boss. I've beaten him a few times but it's always been a major pain in the arse, because if you die, there's almost no rings before or after the checkpoint. Odd topic I know, it came to me in the shower o.O You know that when you press down on the D-pad on this boss, the spikes that fall from the roof don't hurt you, right? At least, that's how I remember it. I always found that boss to be pretty simplistic. Dodge a couple spikes, dodge Eggman, and get a couple hits in when you can. But it's been a while.

The final boss.....I really dont know how to kill him. it really isn't that hard. Wait until he stops walking and is standing still, then Jump, and hit his stomach. when he flies up, and the target is on you, run to the left or right side of the stage, and wait until the target locks, and Run to the other side of the stage. avoiding the Arm shots. stay on that side until the target locks again, and run far enough so you won't get hit, and land a quick jump on him before he rises back up, then lather, rinse Repeat until you've hit him the sufficient amount of times to beat him. i'm not always the best with boss patterns, but even as a kid i got this one easily.

I can get up to the last boss in 2, but usually meet my maker in the water stage (Labyrinth World?) in the first game.

The thing about the giant Eggman Mech is that I have NEVER, EVER beaten him from the front without using Debug Mode.
Before I knew about that, when I was younger, I did it the hard way--I aimed the cross-hairs at the second or third pillar from the far right and stood BEHIND him, pinpointing my hits right in his ass. I was able to perfectly measure the placement of the bombs behind him so that I stood between them when they landed.
