Interesting. I know some people that immigrated to the US from Nepal. I wonder what they think about this.

Vietnam is a People's Democratic Republic. The Congo is a Democratic Republic. East Germany was a Democratic Republic. Clearly, if a Communist Party with Chinese ties uses those terms, I'm suspicious. Elected, Smegelected. Governments are best judged by the quality of their rule, not the means by which they came to power. And Democracy is by no means a pancea for good government. In most cases, it is little above the rule of the mob. This is no compromise, but a foolish and brash move, the goal of which is not peace, but rather a forced confrontation between the two parties, which the maoists would hope ends in the execution or exile of the royal family, and a purge of their supporters. Don't get me wrong, any good government needs to include popular representation in it, but majority rule doesn't guarantee a positive outcome.

Actually the Chinese government isn't too fond of them; and the Nepalese Maoists have been critical of their Chinese counterparts because or their rejection of revolutionary values and the embracement of capitalism. Most likely what happened was the people were fed up of the monarchy and gathered around the most organized group that went against that power. They chose it...they will have to live with it.

Most likely what happened was the people were fed up of the monarchy and gathered around the most organized group that went against that power. They chose it...they will have to live with it. Yeah, that's pretty much my take too. To use the French model, you have a far right monarchy and a far left Maoist group, and some stuff in the middle, but not much. It's a recipie for politcal instability. Cooler heads would try to incorporate the monarchy and it's supporters into the new regime, and not try to make enemies of them. Well, Chinese support to Communists in Nepal and India for that matter has to be seen as akin to it's support to North Korea. They don't like them either, but what they really don't like is US forces stationed in South Korea, and what they really don't like is Superpower India. If Nepal and India were neutralized, that would be in their national interest. I agree, it's not about ideology, as the Chinese at large have converted to the Faith of Moolah, the world's most worshipped god. The Chinese are now Weekend Communists at best. However, I doubt they have entirely abandoned their old allies. Indeed. But usually I would prefer that to mean in an Italian Context, where the unstable useless center right coalition replaces the weak center left coalition for a few months, as opposed to giving power to hard left former terrorists.
