Damn!
Yeah, so that's an international figure. But it's a $150 million opening just in the US. My cinema has been packed the last couple of days because of this film.

Oh hush, Doom. You know you secretly love it. NO, I don't. As far as franchise revivals go it's easily the worst, Yes i even think it's worse than "Phantom Menace"

See, there isn't a lot of downside with Strangers, monetary wise. I don't think the movie cost much to make, and if it fails, it'll probably make it's money back on DVD. But...if it succeeds...

The US horror industry is still strong It's the mainstream that sucks (Apart from Saw & Mandy Lane) , most of the good ones are STV.

While I don't hate on STV per se, I don't think anything beats seeing a good horror flick in a theater with a bunch of other horror fans. Plus, I really wouldn't use the word "strong." The mainstream is derivative for sure, but the STV stuff has a tendancy to be equally poor. A lot of horror gets made cheaply for easy, quick bucks because the target audience will watch just about anything genre-related at least once. Or, okay, at least I will.

I agree there's plenty of cack in the STV market but it good to know that for every Uli lommell s***fest we get a Deadwood park. Also i think mainstream as of late has had some decent movies - The Mist - Dead Silence - Saw - All the boys love Mandy Lane - Diary Of The Dead - 30 days of night Shame for every one of those we get 3 substandard Asian Remakes or obscure 70/80's horror remake, but the real kick in the balls is the fact that these Remakes are making the money so we get more of them and less good or some cases original movies. It's a damn shame
