Yeah, right. You know some stuffy scientist or government will want to "study" them instead of leaving them to their ways. Or worse... They'll run into... *gulp* Christians! ...Is this against the rules?

I never liked paternalism with these peoples. The rest of us get to live in the splendor of the 21st century, but we decide that they are better off living in Grass huts and Mud in the middle of jungle, all so we can comfort ourselves with the existance of a noble savage that never was. Their fate should be their choice, not ours.

Hence them still living that way, when they have had more then enough time to grow as a society if they so wished. Also, as evidenced by the fact that they act so hostile towards the few that do come across them. Just because the 21st century is a "splendor" to you, doesn't mean it is for everyone.

Thinking about it, I think they were less concerned with attacking the plane than they were attacking the camera.
The damn thing stole their souls for crying out glaven!

Hey a chance to make a 'The Gods Must Be Crazy' sequel. Instead of a Coke bottle being dropped on the unsuspecting tribe you could drop: - A Ipod Shuffle loaded with crappy songs. - A Nintendo DS - A Rockem Sockem Robot game - Rubix Cube - A pornographic magazine - A T-Shirt saying 'Untouched by Civilization (front) - Your Doing It Wrong! (back)' Hilarity ensures.

This is really fascinating. To think, there are still entire civilizations on Earth that have not encountered television, radio, computers, books, even clothes. A real key to our past as humans.
Which is why I'm torn on whether or not we should attempt to make contact with them. On the one hand, who knows how their communities would react to our diseases, our culture. Harming a single one of their tribe would be a tragedy. But on the other, research on a completely native tribe would be an invaluable tool for piecing together the history of this world. What music and art do they have, what religion do they have, what hierarchal and governmental systems do they use? Incredible source, and it would make one hell of a documentary.
And I'm sure any researchers attempting to make contact would not be met with open arms. Would take a pretty brave crew to even attempt such a thing. But it has been done before.

That is easily the most amazing news story I've read in a while, and those pictures blew me away.
It's just crazy to think there are still human beings on Earth who haven't progressed as a society in nearly 10,000 years.

I must disagree. First, isolation breeds regression. They couldn't progress, namely because they barely have enough manpower to maintain the knowlege they do have, let alone advance their knowlege. The long extinct native Tasmanians, for example, saw their technology diminish after they the mainland for Tasmania. Hostility doesn't prove they are unwilling to meet with outsiders, it means they are fearful. You would be too, if you thought the world beyond your village was populated with evil spirits, and you saw one. "Splendor?" You mean, clean water, plentiful food, sanitation advanced medicines, labor saving technology, and more knowlege than you can fit in a encyclopedia. Tribal life is not easy, and it's certainly not idyllic. It's short, nasty and brutal. You are at the mercy of the heavens and the elements, every day is a constant search for food, all goods have to be handmade, and you are ravaged by disease and infirmady. Do you know how long the average uncontacted tribe takes to adopt to a new way of life? Only a few years. Look, I'm fine with leaving them alone, especially if they have indicated that is their wish, but I don't think that preserving their way of life is an admirable goal on our part.

I think that's a good point...in a way we are treating them like endangered species at some Safari reserve (except no tourists.) I suppose the problem is in the past that the people who have tried to contact similar tribes were either out to exploit them or convert them to Christianity or Islam (depending on the location.) With that track record, I can see why some are hesitant to disrupt them, on the other hand, civilized society does have things to offer that would be to their benefit.

Let them be as they are.
There are no reasons to interfere with their life.

They could maybe drop one of those tiny hidden cameras that no one could see so that they could watch them.

"yeah, hi, it's the UK. so me and some of the lads were thinking of heading to that new tribe place, just wondering if you were up for it? france is coming, germany says he can come, australia's busy with the Mrs, so we were just gonna head down, you know, rape the culture, do some experiments on them, maybe turn their tribal dress into a porn genre, you know, the usual. anyway, call me back, and we'll see you there, Kbye!"

I am reading a lot about "our diseases" as if disease is something that has not affected these people. They are supposedly uncontacted, how do we know that their life span isn't 24? On the other hand, the article hinted at the fact that their numbers are increasing, so they probably have a decent thing going for themselves.
