Now before I start, I am fully aware that this list has been around for years now. And I am also aware that this list was voted on by several musicians and critics and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Here's the listBut, American Pie doesn't appear anywhere on the entire f***ing list! It is #2 on my all-time list (behind Imagine) and I may have very high on my list but surely it warrants a place on the greatest 500 of all-time? I mean, Nirvana are in the top 10 but American Pie isn't in the 500. Push it by Salt n Pepa is in the list but American Pie isn't. I could go on like this. But for the sake of my sanity I shall sit here and silently sob. And then realise I'm getting bent out of shape about a magazine that kinda sucks.

Very dumb list.
So 1 is "Like a ROLLING STONE" and 2 is by THE Rolling Stones. And by the way, "Satisfaction isn't even a top 5 Stones song, let alone #2 all time. There are also some inconsistencies. "Be My Baby" and "Don't Worry Baby" are 100 spaces apart, but the latter was modeled after the former. What's better is a matter of opinion, and if you give the nod to the original, that's okay. But if we're ranking a song (words, melody, concept) they should be closer.

None of those songs would make it in my top 5000.

Their top 500 albums list isn't much better. Greatest hit and live albums shouldn't be included.

Rolling Stone is a good magazine to roll up tightly and beat hoboes with. Pretty much its only use.

Not a list I really agree with.
-Be My Baby is rightfully in the top 100 but Don't Worry Baby isn't (#176)
-Good selections of Beach Boys songs but I see many that could've made the top 500 but didn't (Surf's Up, Wouldn't it Be Nice, 'Till i Die, Surfer Girl, etc...)
-Smells Like Teen Spirit should not be in the top 10. I'm sorry but that's crazy.
-Let it Be should not be higher then In My Life or Day in the Life.
-Glen Campbell has two songs but Guess I'm Dumb isn't on there (Ok, I may be baised as Brian Wilson wrote it. It's still an amazing song though.)

Rolling Stone has zero credibility. They only love bubble gum pop.

"House of the Rising Sun" is number 122?
There are not 121 songs better than "House of the Rising Sun".

These lists are so subjective. I completely disagree with it. I could make my own list and 95% of those songs wouldnt be on it.

Hmmm..... has there ever been a Top 500 (or 100, or whatever) music countdown of what we feel is the single best song of all time?

Hmmm..... has there ever been a Top 500 (or 100, or whatever) music countdown of what we feel is the single best song of all time? There are so many songs the list would be full of 20-way-ties for places. You know I don't see why people are bitching about this. Personally I feel that it is a valid complaint about "American Pie" not being there, but for the most part other complaints are subjective ones. I will say this much though, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" kicked Alternative Rock/Grunge into the Mainstream (arguably). There's a reason it's listed at #10 even if you don't agree with it.

For one thing, FreeBird is WAY too far down the list. That a few other songs should be listed higher. Also, I got through the top 200 and American Pie wasn't on there, like DiBiase said. I call shenanigans on this list.

Rolling Stone has zero credibility. They only love bubble gum pop. And people who bash Bush. Even if the rest of your album is garbage, all you have to do is say "Bush is teh SUCK" in one of your songs and your album will automatically get 5 stars.

Wanna see a joke? Take a look at their Top 100 Guitarists of All-time. Slash failed to make the list. Dave Navarro said he was upset about not making the list himself, until he saw Slash wasn't on it, then realized it was a bullshit list.

I actually didn't mind it too much. It has more rockabilly than I expected. Gene Vincent almost made the top 100.

#1 should be "The Alphabet Song" because its spurned like a dozen other songs with the same beat, and its ine of the few songs that everybody knows the words to.
Either that or better explain yourselves Rolling STone.
