"Hair metal" shouldn't always be used as an insult anyways.
There are good bands from that genre and bad ones.
Whatever they are Skid Row were a pretty good band.

This list is stupid. Extreme a hair metal band??? Furthermore, Extreme SUCKING? ?? Also, Great White was never a hair band. They were more bluesy. And BAD ENGLISH? They were POP.

I still can't believe Great White gets classified as hair metal when their biggest hit, which is the only song most people know by them, isn't hair metal-esque at all. People just see a band with long hair from the 80's and automatically assume. Same deal with Extreme. People only know More Than Words and maybe Hole-Hearted and figure "they sound like wusses, so they're hair metal." As Nuno was quoted, the tombstone of Extreme would read "the most misunderstood band of all time." A bit melodramatic, but when you can shred like Nuno, you can get away with that. I think the blame rests on the Monster Ballads Monsters of Rock collections that came out in the mid-90's.

You have no idea how mad it makes me. Of course, this is based off their hit 'Love Song', and it doesn't take into consideration some of their more rockin' songs (like 'Edison's Medicine').

All the love for Extreme in this thread raises my respect level for a lot of fellow board members. That's why I love this place!

Extreme gets a bad rap for being a hair band or a bunch of losers that only sing ballads, both of which are untrue. The truth is they're a very eclectic band with an alternately rocking and funky rhythm section, tight harmonies, a passionate singer and a guitar god. Kinda sounds like a certain band that Nuno worships. It probably meant a lot to him when Brian May said that they understood and followed the point of Queen more than any other band he'd seen. Anyway, I defy anyone to call Extreme soft after listening to Play With Me.

I'd much rather see a list made by a "hair metal" fan that features the bands that really, really suck. I mean no one is gonna confuse Brett Michaels with Paul McCartney or Brian Wilson as far as song writing goes, but Poison has some really good songs that make you want to lit your lighters and or show your ta-tas (if you gott'em)
