since I saw it in the theater and it grew on me a little. Sure I still hated the way too long dialogue scenes, but I just love the ending car chase too much not to like it on some level.
Plus I finally got to see the missing reel lap dance scene...holy toledo.

As a huge KR mark, I was sad how that ended, because I sure did want some of those girls to die. Big fan of the first half of DP, but haven't seen it on dvd yet.

Stuntman Mike went out like a bitch. It made me sad That made me sad the first time I saw it, but upon further viewings, he needed to become a bitch. Once the women were in control and he wasn't, he didn't know what to do. It seemed fitting in a way.

Stuntman Mike went out like a bitch. It made me sad That was kind of the point. Here was a guy who thought he was an ace, who thought he had all the bases covered, but in the end, he gets challenged for the first time, and he crumbles. His house of cards falls. It's the first time I've seen a movie badass do that. At the end, he's a coward killer of women, and he gets what's coming to him (and yes, I know the irony of this and my gimmick.) It's almost akin to an idea Sam Raimi had for Army Of Darkness, where everything's going down with the Deadites, and Arthur's men find Ash hiding, scared to death, and not thinking he could be the hero. It would have ruined the character of Ash if it was filmed, but it fascinates me deeply.

I still say it was better than Planet Terror.

Huh, that's weird, I don't remember that on the DVD. But end of day...Kurt Russell is still the man. And you all have to watch his commentaries with John Carpenter The End.

It was a deleted scene. I have the "bootleg" version...or basically the director's cut with the original ending.

EDT: I checked the deleted scenes, and it ain't on there. I love Anchor Bay, but the multiple releases of the ED movies piss me off.

I really enjoyed it, it was my favorite of the two Grindhouse flicks. And as has been stated, Stuntman Mike was essentially a bully, and once he couldn't be intimidating and didn't have things go his way, he showed his true cowardly colors.

The ending kinda ruined the movie, even though it made sense. I'm misogynistic like that.

I wanted him to kill those women. I wanted that badass Kurt Russell the whole movie, like I was told we were gonna get by QT himself by constantly talking about bringing back the bad ass Kurt and not the family style Kurt. I wanted it to be a movie where the good guys just don't win. I was hoping he was faking them out and leading them to a cliff or something and they all go flying off only for him to live since his car was Death Proof. Maybe if the female characters were more likeable I wouldn't feel this way, but like I said, I was ready for them to die.

I also watched this again recently. My thought was that I might enjoy it more after not having been in a theater for 2 hours already when it started. I hated it just as much though. Maybe even more. It really is a failed effort IMO. Tarantino's limitations really come through here, because he can't do what Rodriguez did, which is pay homage to the crappy, low budget "grindhouse" type films. All he can do is make a Tarantino movie. Which is fine I guess, but why put it out with the Grindhouse theme behind it? I think the real trouble is how great it could have been without an hour of pointless dialogue. Also, Butterfly, the girl who gives Stuntman Mike the lap dance, looks like a ghoul in HD. I was honestly grossed out by her face.

In one of the extra's Kurt Russell says it was his idea to do that to Stuntman Mike at the end.
This was an odd movie for me. I liked it when I saw it in the theater, not as much as PLANET TERROR, but it was good. But for some reason, it plays better on DVD on the smaller screen.
One thing that it did have over PT, was Zoe Bell.

Like I said, I wished Kim and Rosario would have died, and it would have been Zoe vs. Stuntman Mike, one on one, car vs. car at the end. Woulda been so much better.
And that song at the end, Chick Habit? That song is BADASS.

I still say it was better than Planet Terror. I agree. I liked Planet Terror, but something was missing... maybe it was because I kept hearing it was way better than Death Proof, but I dunno... I just liked DP more than PT. Then again, I'm a Kurt Russell mark when it comes to his action movies. Hell, I even really enjoyed Soldier.
