"***3/4 -- Very good match. Nothing wrong with it, but not a match of the year contender. Could have used a few more minutes and a few more near falls to elevate the star rating, but the finish out of nowhere is not bad to throw into a big match now and then as it makes all future near falls out of nowhere in other big matches seem like possible finishes." - Wade Keller, PW Torch Editor
"Stephanie's faction wins. Get used to it, wrestling fans, as Team Stephahunter will be around for the next 30-50 years. I try to remain objective here, but the wrestling fan in me says that f'ing sucks. And WWE just lost some PPV buyers after all the hype for Hardy winning the belt. I think the newz sites are still doing too much LSD, and it was a good match, crap finish aside. In fact, I applaud Keller's somewhat uncommon level-headedness

i find it unbelievable that they would ignore the huge momentum behind Hardy, and have Orton win, just to avoid rocking the boat and changing plans

Just because Hardy lost tonight doesn't mean he's not main event now or ever again. If he isn't in a title match at WM, I'm calling him to win the MitB.

It was an underwhelming match to be honest, but I just don't understand the finish. If the plan all along was for Hardy to lose, then why push this guy to the point where fans really believe he was going to be the next WWE Champion? It's just...mind-boggling. This finish made me think that Cena's on top was blind luck and the reason why he's still there is b/c he makes the company a boatload of money.
As for the match itself, Hardy needed *that* match to finally put him on top as a true main eventer, and it didn't happen. I don't know if it was him who dropped the ball or the booking of the match that made him look like a mid-carder. I don't know where he goes from here...Cena's coming back in about 3 months, so unless Jeff wins Money in the Bank, this is probably the last time Hardy will main event a major PPV.

The match was alright, I just think people expected a lot out of it (which they very well should've), and were disappointed.
Hopefully Hardy can continue as a main-eventer (ish) from here, he made things interesting. And I'd still love to see him with the title.

They're going to be screwing the IWC over into their 80's? Will there even be an Internet then? I thought the match was good. Some good spots, a great finishing sequence. But just good.

And WWE just lost some PPV buyers after all the hype for Hardy winning the belt. (-***)" - James Caldwell, PW Torch Columnist Not to be a smart-ass but people really expected Hardy to win the belt? I thought there was a very slim outside shot only because they kept bringing up past dual-title holders but I really didn't think anybody was expecting to see that. Even speculation on Rumble winners was based around who would be credible against Orton or Edge. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

What WWE was doing was making Hardy look like he had a chance as on paper it just looked like another title defense for Orton. If he didn't have the IC title, I'd probably be more inclined to think that Hardy had more of a chance, but I doubt they were going to make him hold two belts. It was an ok match, but nothing awe-inspiring,IMO.

WWE doesn't take chances. Everyone should know that by now.

Orton/Cena has been the WWE's dream match for years and they surprised the hell out of everyone by making it happen. Orton retaining adds that much more to it. Yes, it sucks for Hardy but, its Cena, it was going to happen like this. By Wrestlemania, the average fan wont be pissed Hardy lost and wont be in the title match, they'll be psyched for Cena/Orton. Are people really this shortsighted? EDIT: If this came before the Rumble was over, then I take some back but, you have got to give Steph and the rest credit for what went down. This is huge for WWE.

Cena would peel onions in the ring and still get a pop while it takes a lot for the fan to get excited about a Jeff Hardy match.

I really wasn't expecting Hardy to win and I wouldn't have cared either way.
But the thing I hate is how that they push Cena so hard who has to fight to get full fan support gets hot shotted, while Hardy who has gotten bigger pops than Cena and has more overall fan support gets thrusted down the card.

Internet fans don't know what the hell they want.
They don't want shows to be predictable, but they get mad when things don't go the way they are speculating that will/should go.
I'm mad as hell that Hardy didn't win the title, but not in a "WWE didn't do what's right for business," or "Steph screwed Jeff(please shut up with that one)" way.
In a strictly kayfabe way.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole match, cursed at the TV when Orton hit the RKO and cursed even louder when he scored the fall.
It's matches and build-ups like Hardy-Orton that have kept me watching pro wrestling for two-and-a-half decades and, God willing, will allow me to do so for many more.

I look at this like I looked at the Hardy/Taker minifeud back in '03 on RAW. Hardy looked like he seriously had a shot, but in the end of the day, you knew he wasn't going to win. Hardy is a great upper mid-carder, a staple to fall back on, but he just doesn't have that true main-event feel to him. I wasn't shocked that Hardy lost, but losing clean was a shock.

Go ahead, mark them, in case I need to eat them later.
