I know, I'm trying to figure out something I shouldn't, but does anyone know why Chavo was entered when he was, well, one of the champions the winner would face?
No 'devaluing of the belt' or anything, I'm just curious.

The bigger question is, why was Chavo in the Royal Rumble instead of Paul London or Brian Kendrick, who weren't anywhere on the card AGAIN, despite actually being more over than Chavo?

No 'devaluing of the belt' or anything, I'm just curious. They probably didn't have anymore guys, and figured...."crowds don't equate the ECW strap with the other top belts." Then again, remember 1992 when Piper, earlier same night won his sole Intercontinental title reign, entered the Royal Rumble?

Well, London is apparently injured. But I am confused why Chavo was in there. The only storyline reason I could come up with is if he won him AND Edge would be able to weasel their way out of proper title defenses at 'Mania. But I doubt WWE put that much thought into it so I'm not sure

Maybe he was there to prevent CM Punk from winning it? He did eliminate Punk after all.

He wanted to win the Rumble and wrestle himself for the ECW Championship.

I guess Chavo wanted to make a farce of Mania by winning the Rumble and challenging Edge so he could lay down for him, and Edge would unify the World and ECW Titles.

In WWE it is possible to hold more than one belt. Many have done it before. So if Chavo were to have won he could have still challenged for the WWE or World title and have held 2 belts at once if he won at Mania.

That's true, but it made the ECW belt seem less important as the other champions didn't get involved in it. Not that it was really important to begin with.

Probably to remind us that CM Punk will be feuding with Chavo on ECW, not with Edge on Smackdown.

It shows how worthless the WWECW belt is.

Because they didn't have a set Royal Rumble roster and couldn't find guys to put in? This Rumble sounded to be like ass. The qualifiers were pointless (if CM Punk beat Chavo in a qualifier, why was Chavo STILL in it, nevermind that he is a world champ already...), and it seemed obvious it was rushed. Hotshotting Cena like that? C'mon, WWE, you had forever to properly book this thing. What was taking your time away from it, JBL/Jericho? Because we all know how much work was put into THAT feud.

I think that they were just going for surprises until the big night cap of Cena returning and winning again

I assumed it was because Vickie was in control of Smackdown and found a way for him to be in it.
I mean, he does have connections...
