To Mike Awesome "You sold out". Yet they went nuts for Tazz even though he used his WWE music.

To Mike Awesome "You sold out". Yet they went nuts for Tazz even though he used his WWE music. And were chanting the same thing towards him months earlier before he departed. This aired on ECW TV with Styles making Awesome seem like he was fleeing the building from Tazz.

Tazz didn't jump to WWE while he was ECW Champion.

Tazz didn't jump to WWE while he was ECW Champion. You're absolutely right, he didn't, but he still got those chants and then some at the Anarchy Rulz 99 PPV and at nearly every other TV taping until his departure. I was annoyed by Styles commentary at the first ONS about Mike Awesome, I mean yeah he left, but the guy had a family to feed and he was making it like the guy shot his wife in the face or something.

It's a pretty weird environment for sure, but between the two, obviously ECW crowd is gonna favor Taz, even if they didn't like that he left them, at least he did it with warning.
I don't think Mike was at fault per se, considering ECW's track record with paychecks, but thats not the part that the crowd saw, the crowd saw him trying to bail while still ECW Champion.

So...the fact that I was looking for this the other day is pretty interesting.
I wonder what else will randomly show up when I can't find it?
...
*Natalie Portman, Natalie Portman, Natalie Portman...*
Also, I love all of ECW's random venues. Here they are in some sort of ballroom.
Also also, "holy shit" chant just for Tazz walking out. God, I love ECW.

Tazz didn't jump to WWE while he was ECW Champion. Neither did Awesome - doesn't he drop the title here or am I seeing things in this video?

He had already appeared on WCW television before he lost the title in this video. Thats why the OP says Tazz (WWF) vs Mike Awesome (WCW).

What I didn't get was why let Taz (who had already left for WWE) take the title off of Mike Awesome why not just let Tommy Dreamer (even though he would lose the belt the same night ) beat Mike Awesome for the title or someone like Rhino since they were building him up at the time?
I never understood that.

I actually tuned into ECW TV specifically to see this. I rarely watched the show (something I regret in retrospect) but made sure to see this when I read about it online.

Yeah...I never blamed Awesome for leaving. If anyone here were in his position and not getting paid, they'd also leave for WCW.

This was a great example of creative booking. To even have this set up was genius. They could had someone like Dreamer go out and do it. But I think it was more of a shock value they wanted to get more which they did.

Plus it got Tazz a WWF title match against HHH on Smackdown, right?
IIRC Dreamer interfered on Tazz's behalf but ended up costing him the match, and that set up the feud on ECW where Tazz would drop the belt to..............I don't remember.......

Dreamer, who lost it to Justin Credible that same night. I posted the thread in the Wrest of wrestling forum, I think it might be on page 2.

This is something I thought about all the chants about guys leaving ECW and anything else. Their cheques were bouncing! I didn't realise it was selling out to want to, you know, eat food and work for a living.Besides, Tazz said he wasn't having fun any more. If selling out is doing something you don't want to do for money, then he wasnt' doing that either.
