he seem to have really believed his own hype as being the greatest IC champ of all time and a bigger draw than any other IC champ. Was Honky that big of a draw as champ or was he just right place right time when WWF/E was red hot in the 80s.
Do u think it was just a coincedence that he was IC champ or do u believe the hype that Honky was doing sell out all the country and the sellouts were all because of honky and the fans hating him so much that they bought to tickets to see him get beat? I notice that once honky lost the IC strap he lost alot of momentum and was stuck in meaningless fueds thereafter in the midcard.

People HATED Honky Tonk, so I can imagine that he did draw people in a sense.
After losing to the Warrior in embarassing fashion, they never really did him any favors in terms of booking

I think so, he had the most second most important belt in wwf, he was good at getting heat from the crowd, back in the day when hogan would main even the a show, honkey was doing the b shows headlining.

He was effective because everyone hated him and couldn't wait for him to lose, and it took over a year for it to finally happen. Does he still hold the record for longest IC title reign?

^^^ I think so but I'm 100% sure. Randy Orton and Shelton both where close. I want to say I think Shelton may have broken it during his first run with it as the big fan.

They weren't even close. Honkey's reign was almost twice as long as Shelton's, which was 34 days longer than Orton's. The Honkey Tonk Man is the last person to hold the IC Title for more than a year, with no one gettingloser than 90 days shy since then.
Hell, Shelton's reign is only the 9th longest, with Honkey, Pedro Morales, Randy Savage, Don Muraco, Greg Valentine, Mr. Perfect, The Rock, and Pat Patterson's reigns being longer.

I believe he was, he did a sellout in MSG with Savage as the main event in December 87, so I'd say the guy had plenty of heat that people were willing to pay to see him get beat.

Oh yeah. That's why, even with Honky Tonk Man being so outspoken, he was still brought back a few times, called to come back a few times, and they called him to go for the Hall of Fame.
Despite how outspoken and all the critisisms Honky Tonk Man has about WWE, they always want him back because he is the draw that he is.
It's sad that the Intercontinental Title almost used to be at the same level as the WWE Title. Back in the day, when Tito Santana and Greg Valentine for feuding over it, they did sell outs without Hogan. Savage ended up doing the same thing, same with Honky Tonk Man, Ultimate Warrior and others. No it's just a belt that's thrown on somebody because the person who had it failed a drug test.
