From ROHwrestling.com:
After a long and punishing stay, BJ Whitmer has decided to walk away from Ring Of Honor. ROH and Whitmer have now officially parted ways. Everyone in ROH wants to thank BJ for his immense contributions to the company.
Whitmer, a leader in the locker room, set an example in and out of the ring. He had the most service time on the ROH roster after making his debut on the very first show of 2003. Spanky had feverishly recommended Whitmer to ROH officials throughout 2002. Whitmer finally received his opportunity at "Revenge On The Prophecy" on January 11th, 2003 as part of the first ever Four Corner Survival vs. Paul London, Homicide and Colt Cabana. Whitmer impressed in this bout, which put the Four Corner Survival on the map to become a signature ROH match. Whitmer never looked back.
He did it all in his ROH career. You want a title belts? Whitmer is a four time ROH Tag Team Champion with Dan Maff and Jimmy Jacobs as partners. You want great feuds? No ROH fan will ever forget his battles against CZW and Jimmy Jacobs. You want matches that did big business? Look at his "Steel Cage Showdown" vs. Jimmy Jacobs or No Rope Barbed Wire Match vs. The Necro Butcher. How about great matches? Well, just look at his battles against Homicide at "Main Event Spectacles" or Samoa Joe at "Hell Freezes Over" to name a few.
It is no coincidence that ROH officials chose BJ Whitmer to open up ROH's first ever pay-per-view "Respect Is Earned." Whitmer's consistency and seniority earned him that once-in-a-lifetime spot. BJ Whitmer had some frustrations during the past year. When his own Hangmen Three group turned on him to join Sweet & Sour Inc., Whitmer had taken one beating too many. It was time for him to walk away.
We wish BJ the best in his future endeavors. He was a credit to the locker room, a performer who gave his all to the fans and is a quality person. Thank you, BJ Whitmer

I'll probably be the only one sad to see him go.

Anyone know why he left? I honestly haven't seen a lot of Whitmer, so I'm not hit hard either way by this news, but does anyone know why he left?

I hope I'm not the only one that wishes more wrestling companies would say goodbye to departing employees like this.

I have to say I will miss Whitmer. He's given a really, really hard time, but if you look through the years, he put on a lot of great matches. I don't know exactly why he left, but I wish him luck in the future.

I'll certainly miss him. I was a big fan of Whitmer. Glad to see I'm not the only one out there. But am I the only one unsure if this is legitimate or part of some angle?

Whitmer was great... but I kinda had a feeling his time was close to being up when they decided to give him more of a "Tommy Dreamer" gimmick where he is a perennial ROH wrestler, but was never meant to really move up the roster unless absolutely necessary. Basically, to a point where he seemed to only be on the shows because that was his gimmick... so you could tell ROH kinda stopped trying with him, and he kinda stopped trying himself.
I'll miss him, but this is definitely a good thing. He can go out, recharge his batteries, and if he comes back.... I'll be glad to see him.

In my first ever ROH show (Dragon Gate Challenge), I heard "Down" by STP, possibly my favorite song by them. When I saw Whitmer walk out, all I could think was "This goober is seriously coming out to this sweet-ass music?"
The thing is, Whitmer, and his opponent Jimmy Jacobs, gave me quite possibly the best memory of ROH. That match was, to me, indicative of a truly good match in ROH. I was legitimately impressed by both Whitmer and Jacobs that night and continued to cheer for Whitmer after that.
It's sad that he's gone but hopefully he can overcome the fact that his personality comes off like a huge plank of wood and find an opportunity in the Big 2...

I was on the side of the ring BJ powerbombed Jacobs. It was truly one of the most intense and scary spots I've ever seen. Some kid was shouting "You smurfed up!" I turned around and told the kid to shut up. Seriously going to miss Whitmer. During BJ vs Jacobs vs Dragon for the title, when BJ was the first eliminated I was one of the only one upset, I stood up and yelled "That's smurfing bullsmurf!" Everyone else looked at me like I was stupid, humbly I sat back down. Good luck Whitmer.

I'm sure he'll be missed by some, though I can't say I am one of them.
Though the moment at "In Your Face" where he powerbombs Jacobs from the top rope into the crowd was kinda sick.

Work
But it'd be sad to see him go, I guess. I don't know, I never really got into him and he was lucky to get into such high profile feuds with Jacobs and CZW but even then, I think those were accidents

I'll probably be the only one sad to see him go. He was their "val venis", the guy who could go in there and make anybody look solid or like a threat. Even midgets like Homicide and Jimmy Jacobs. That's a very valuable roster member I wonder if he got called up to the big leagues or if he just decided to step away for awhile.

I think this was past due. He's been spinning his wheels since the Jacobs feud ended. I was never a big fan of the guy, but this was a nice, respectable outro article.

It really sounds like hes stepping away from the business for a while, I wonder why though? Him leaving ROH is just giving him more time to train for his NRBW match against Jimmy Jacobs ;D

That stinks. I was never a huge fan, but he was good at what he did.
He and Jacobs as a team was good times.
And Pierce and Gunner scott in Sweet and Sour...hmm.

I've never got the Whitmer hate. I always thought the guy was pretty good, plus he turned a botch into THE sickest and coolest powerbomb that I've ever seen. I'll miss him.

If all companies wished former employees well this way, the world would be a better place.

After the botch I thought they'd just hotshot the finish, but the fact that both men still gave a solid 10 minutes after it showed the dedication. I was also sad to see BJ get eliminated from that 3-way, but the near falls with Jacobs were absolutely great... Made you feel like Jacobs could truly win...
