Here's the facts. In 1993-94, only 17 tag teams won a match on TV or PPV. 11 of those were 'name' tag teams. The most successful team during that period, the Steiner Brothers, won nearly 30 matches on TV and PPV during that time.
Flash forward to today, 2007-08. 58 tag teams have won a match on TV or PPV so far and we're not at 'Mania yet. More than half of those teams won only once. The most successful team during this period, John Morrison and Mike Mizanin, aren't a 'name' tag team and have won 11 matches on TV and PPV. An actual name tag team, the Highlanders, have won 1 tag match on TV/PPV since 'Mania last year. That's less than CM Punk & Rey Mysterio, a much vaunted tag team to be sure.
Too many thrown together tag matches to advance single feuds, not enough wins for teams in the tag division. That's what's killing the tag division today. Numbers prove it, baby.

What's killing tag teams is single main-eventers beating these tag teams in 2-VS.-1 Handicap Matches just to get their own storylines over. What's killing tag teams is making hype videos for upcoming tag teams, giving them a World Tag Team title shot within two months of their arrival, then relegating them to "Heat" whether they win or lose.
...And...y'know, what you said, too.

Eh, I think the problems with the tag division go far beyond whether a team is called The Cocky Prick Foundation or Miz and Morrison.

The problem isn't that they don't have names (which is why I use name in commas) but that they're not 'really' a tag team. They're single wrestlers who are just killing time in the mid-card.

True but whats going to happen after the Morrison/Miz team break up. Morrison will flounder for a few months and eventually get pushed because he has the talent and already had a Singles Push. But Miz hasn't and if they spent time building this tag team up both will gain a lot and they're is always a plan B of what to do with them, if neither have anything else to do

I think the biggest problem is that the tag titles are used as Singles ME fued fodder.

I don't see how they're any less of a team than anyone else in WWE. They've done nothing but have tag team feuds since winning the belts. They're not singles guys winning the belts to further another storyline. The tag division is their storyline. Hell they're breathing life into it. Cody & Hardcore are singles guys who are doing nothing to come off as a team, though thats mostly because they are never on TV.

Presently, WWE seldom ever makes plans for what to do after the tag team titles have been won. They have a habit of building up a team, giving them some impressive victories, having them win the tag titles- and then...nothing happens, until they either split the team up, or get a NEW idea for a NEW tag team and have them win the titles. Gah.

By the way. I believe that Miz & Morrison are referred to as "The In-Crowd" but because of their 'egos' they want separate entrances.
Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore are referred to as "The Redneck and the Reject."
Deuce and Domino are...well..."Deuce N Domino" but they usually just use "and."
In other words, I think some of the tag teams have names, but they just aren't used.

Hold on a second - when did the Highlanders win a match?

I liked how the Major Brothers went from a "named team" with a bit of a gimmick (being brothers) and a tag finisher to an unnamed team with no gimmick and seemingly no tag finisher.

Wait...I take it the TV/PPV thing doesn't count Heat?

What's killing tag teams is that there aren't any good ones (IE Hardys, Dudleys, E&C, New Age Outlaws)
