The mountie was such a weak gimmick, it couldn't get over even with Jimmy Hart and the "shock stick"
In contrast, Piper never needed anything beyond his own charisma to get over. Interesting comparison.

Is it me or is Piper's "shock proof vest" simply a wet suit top?
Also, the Mountie kicked ass.

I remember him being really over, that's why the match with Bossman happened at summerslam. Seriously don't get the Mountie hate here. Oh and if you look to the side bar you'll see Roddy/Hulk promos where they tagged together against Sid/Flair. I have that match on tape, it's really cool. Flair does lose tothe AXE BOMBAH!

The Mountie was right from the classic 80's/early 90's foreigner gimmick mold.
Always cheated to win (with illegal weapon, no less). Annoying catchphrase. "I - AM - DA - MOUNTIEEEEEE!!!!!" Jimmy Hart.
Hell, Canada banned the gimmick for crying out loud.
It was totally over.

always a good match to watch. I marked so hard when Roddy finally got a belt in the WWF. Ahhhh the good ol'days.
Also The Mountie ruled. It's another classic case of a worker getting a lame gimmick and making it work.

LOL at the Homey the Clown reference Vince makes at the end Piper: I don't play that Vince: ha ha and neither does Homey Man does Vince sound like he was forcing that reference especially with that over the top, boisterous delivery he had as an announcer. I think this was when SNME moved to Fox so atleast it makes sense. My favorite Fox-WWE crossover from this time would be the SNME from Fall of '92 when the show is introduced by Ed O'Neal in character as Al Bundy sitting on his couch watching tv telling Buck the dog how excited he was about the upcoming card. Even though this is a more obvious attempt at cross promotion, it doesn't seem as forced as Vince's Homey the Clown reference.

CBS Thinks Wrestling is RealYou know, the funny thing is, fast forward to 2007, the RCMP is under fire for use of tasers. Killing an dishelved, unarmed man in Vancouver became a international embarassment. Funny how life works out.

Like Piper needed a vest. If he can break a bottle legit over his head and not care, what's electricity going to do . Guy's a nut.

Mountie was great. I'd so mark if Jauque came back and did that again.
I never could figure out what his finisher was though. Did he ever win with anything besides lucky quick-pins and the shock stick?

Hell, Canada banned the gimmick for crying out loud. When? I remember watching the mountie. He was just known as the Quebecer here.
