This was the best RAW I've seen in years. It proves that the WWE can still put on a hell of a show. I had to work while it was on live, but I taped it, and enjoyed it when I got ghome. Let's have a look...
Undertaker vs. Mark Henry(Rematch from Wrestlemania 22)
Kinda blah Casket Match. Where was the usual Double Wide, Double Deep, Double Thick casket? I kept thinking Edge would be in there. Of all the opponents Taker's had at Wrestlemania, they give him Mark Henry? Well, it could have been worse, I suppose.
Dave "Fit" Finlay vs. Ken Kennedy(Rematch from...um...Wrestlemania 31)
This must've been the shortest DQ I've ever seen, at 14 seconds! I was guinelly cringing for Kennedy. I hoped the fans would start chanting for him to get up.
Jeff Hardy(c) vs. Chris Jericho: WWE Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship(Rematch from...Wrestlemania 25)
The match of the night! a **** Classic that I'll never forget. This goes to show the naysayers that this title still means something, and that the WWE can still put on a hell of a match to make it look good. I totally marked out when it said the title was being defended on TV for the first time in months. I marked out more when I saw what a great mastch it was. I cheered for Jericho the whole time, and was very happy that the crowd cheered for him too, at least part of the time. I almost cried when Hardy hit the Twist of Fate, but totally marked out when he missed the Swanton Bomb. I started going "Codebreaker! COEDBREAKER!", and Jericho hit it, and I marked out more. When the ref made the 3 count, I pounded the couch with him. 1-2-3! New IC Champion! What a match!
Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff vs. The US Express(Rematch from WrestleMania)
I had a feeling this one would happen. I stood up as Volkoff sang the Soviet National Anthem, looking 200 years olf. I grinned as Sheik, looking like he did in 1984 except pregnant, said his totally incoherent promo. I liked how Volkoff had his Face jacket on(US and USSR Flags), but played Heel. When Rotundo and Windham came out, I was disapointed not to hear Real American or Born in the USA. I was really excited to see this match. Then, with horror, cringed as Jillian Hall came out to ruin it. Her singing brought a tear to my eye, as I begged, pleaded, for someone to hit her and stop it. Mike Rotundo became my favorite wrestler when he Airplane Spinned her, and stopped that warbling. Then, I felt extreemely ripped off as they decided to cancel the match. I'm so pissed at Jillian, taking all the time for this great rematch up by singing her bullCRAP. DAMN IT!
HHH vs. Kane(Rematch from Wrestlemania XV)
This match was pretty good. I liked how Randy Orton changed the complexion of the match when he came out and distracted both men. I really hoped Kane would win, but alas, he did the job for Hunter yet again. Sigh.
Melina vs. Maria(Rematch from Wrestlemania 26)
Blah. Talentless females. NEXT! Seriously, why couldn't they have Beth Pheonix vs. Victoria instead, if they're just gonna throw random women in there.
Big Show and Mayweather's Weigh In.
Pure Awesomeness. I guess we know who the heel is now :-D I kept pointing at Mayweather, and telling the crowd "Boo This Man!". I really hope he gets his ass kicked at Wrestlemania. Big Show was in perfect Confident and cocky Face mode, and he played to the audience like a virtuoso. I marked out when his posse came out(see my new, and first, sigpic). I really enjoyed it when he threw Mayweather over toe top rope. JR later said his elbow was injured. I hope it's only kayfabe, since i don't wanna see anybody hurt in the name of my entertainment, but I wouldn't be all that bothered if it were legit. Mayweather is a...well, I won't say what he is here, but he needs to be humbled a bit, doesn't he. I wish Show would have grabbed his money and threw it to the crowd, like Andre did at WrestleMania. I hoped Shane would hit somebody after being pushed down like that. It seemed legit.
Edge(c) vs. C.M. Punk: (WCW) World Heavyweight Championship
At least I think it was a title match. The announcers never made it clear. There are so many non-title matches these days too... Anyways, this was a good match. A very good effort by both men. This is looking like it'll be Edge's next feud. If he retains against Taker, which I deem pretty unlikely, C.M. may be in line to be the next (WCW) World Heavyweight Champion! I liked how Punk dominated the whole match. I'm really buying into Edge as a main eventer. Finally. Alas, he ended it with his stupid Running Hug Takedown. Why can't he use the Edge-e-cution, or the Edgecator, or the Downward Spiral? All great finishing moves. And he has to lambast that stupid Running Hug Spear. Oh Well.
John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels
They delivered, as always. At the beginning of the match, I thought they were calling it in. Then, they broke into some great chain wrestling. Micheals worked his experience and speed advantages, while Cena used his power and "overcoming the odds powers" to his advantage. The match had a great pace, and lots of great moments. They told a beautiful story in that ring. Too bad it had to end by DQ. On the bright side, at least HBK won. Not that I'm a Cena hater or anything. I'm just more of an HBK fan. He better enjoy it while he can. If he ends Flair's career, I'll never like that man again. He'll be in perma-heel mode for me from then on.
HHH's promo at the end was pretty interesting. Cena and Orton vs. Everyone on the roster?! This could be record breaking. Assuming he means only the actively wrestling males, this will be a 27 vs. 2 Handicap Match. A 29-man-tag! Awesome!
