Just wondering, who was the first champion to start wearing their title belt draped over their shouldr, like Orton and Kane do nowadays.
Any footage I've seen from te 80's and earlier has the champion with the belt on around their waist or holding it folded in one of their hands like Flair used to do.
An ideas guys, or did people just start to do it all of a sudden w/o any explanation

I think it was Bret, or maybe Yokozuna. I know it was around that era.
I think the belt on the shoulder thing is good. You can get good close-ups of the wrestler's face with the belt in view while he talks.

I believe it was Sir Boliver Turnbuckle and his signature move: The 1/8th Nelson.

Going back to the early sixties, at least. I have a early sixties match with the US Tag Champions The Fabulous Kangaroos where they hold their belts over their shoulders during a ringside interview.

I`m fine for belts over the shoulder during a promo or an interview, but wear that sucka on the way to the ring, kids.

Yeah, around the waist is better. Ideally kept on during the match too, like in the Warrior vs Jobber match in the early 1990s when the ass clown was in such a rush to do his thing that he must have forgotten to take it off.

I don't mind the champ wearing the belt over his shoulder but it really annoys me for some reason when they just drag it along the floor as the walk to the ring. It's not so bad if it's someone like say Umaga where it kind of fits his gimmick but otherwise it should be worn preferably round the waist or over the shoulder.

No love for the MNM "over the crotch" position?

Considering how much it costs to make one of those belts, I'd be p-o'ed if I was Vince. That leather doesn't come cheap!

i thought magnum TA was the first one to wear it over the shoulder, or at least look the coolest doing it.

Or in hilarious WCW Jericho fashion, where he attempts to wrestle with the belt on and protests the referee's claims that he must remove it...

No love for the MNM "over the crotch" position? Normally I hate anything but around the waist when coming to the ring, but I loved Nitro using it as a crotch protector
