Hacksaw sucks. Always has. If it weren't for the novelty of having a senior citizen come to the ring with a 2x4 and shout "Ho!", there's be nothing to cheer.
It's just nostalgia.

I'm sorry but did you suggest that wrestlers LEARN to get over?

Hacksaw consistently gets one of the top pops during live shows, even when only being in dark matches.
The fact of the matter is, Duggan's over because of his characters simplicity. He's often related to a big German Sheppard. Clumsy, and kind of ugly and a goof, but loveable all the same. The Attitude/Vince Russo/Crash TV style of wrestling booking focused more on giving depth to the characters and "not insulting the intelligence of the fan", but the problem with that is that there aren't many good writers in wrestling, and they have to write hours of programming a week, every week, and eventually, they end up just writing each character as a direct reflection of themselves.
What separates DH Smith from CM Punk from Cody Rhodes from Randy Orton even from a guy like Jeff Hardy? Nothing really. We're just given the implication of who's supposed to be good and who's supposed to be bad and for no particular reason.
Duggan has had a place to be over almost his entire career because he's perfected a simple, yet unique gimmick that has turned out to be incredibly flexible. He was the loyal patriot during the Cold War, the hilarious cross-eyed goofball during the WWF's cartoon stage. He was the loyal guy you always counted on for some stress-free fun during WCW's ultra-serious nWo days, and now he's the consummate nostalgia act.

Duggan was never a ring wizard, but I've always had a soft spot for him. I like that his gimmick has always been simple:He's a patriot. He's a big goof who goes out and brawls. The guy can sell. I think he's always been underrated in that aspect I like that he ENJOYS being out there. Always has. Always loves putting on a show for the fans. People will never remember Duggan as a mega star, but Ill always have fond memories of him. I wish there were more Jim Duggans in the wrestling business Duggan is the goofy uncle that everyone has.

Saying it's nostalgia only means you never saw one of his matches before the turn of the millenium. He's always been over.
And about the battle cry, let the Miz bring back HOORAH! I swear it'll work.

Maybe it's just nostalgia, but damned if I don't have a smile on my face every time I see Hacksaw come out to the ring with Old Glory. I seem to remember at some point in time he gave his 2 x 4 a name, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. Betsy

the only thing anyone can learn from Hacksaw is how to have a job with the top wrestling company in the world at over 50 while having no talent whatsoever. Yeah I just went there and I stick by my words.

Duggan's 11 years off from being a senior citizen. And why does he "suck?" Cause he doesn't do 50 planchas during a match? There's gotta be some reason he made it to the big time, and it certainly wasn't a case of getting by on a look.

I consider Hacksaw a legend in that he's the kinda midcard guy who's the backbone of any company. Always over as well like you mentioned. I endorse this thread.

Something that builds to a great SummerSlam opener? Maybe a Hacksaw IC run?

Duggan annoyed me in the 80s as a kid .. He annoys me even worse now. Couldnt work a lick and Other than chanting "HO!" or "USA!" he was pretty insigniciant. I cant believe Vince has kept this guy around. I got no problem with the guy but he just well. SUCKS. Hacksaw's big run was in Midsouth. He was just a glorified midcarder in the 80s in NY.
Id rather have Jake around to teach the young guys ring psychology and interview skills, since that is what is missing most from the business today

Duggan is my favorite wrestler. Period.
I'll always like the "tough guy" and break into a big smile whenever he shows up on TV.
I enjoyed his brief time as Eugene's mentor and wish that his team with Super Crazy could be on TV more.
Actually, I'd enjoy it if he got some form of WWE gold. He's had such a long career and has never held a WWF/WWE title. Just a brief tag title run with Super Crazy would be great in my opinion.

Hacksaw is all about interacting with the crowd, wrestlers these days are actually discouraged from doing that so they often struggle to get over. Plus his catchphrase is just fun to say Hooooooooooooo!
Finally like that thread about Kurt Angle he has just has that quality where you look at him and can't help but like the guy no matter what.
Yep I just compared Hacksaw Jim Duggan to Kurt Angle.

I think people are being too hard on the guy.
Look at Finlay. He's just as old and just like Hacksaw, he has a lot to teach the younger guys in regards to how to get over, etc.
