You love "dirt sheets". You prefer workrate over characters. You detest anything McMahon promoted. You're dying to see a NOAH show live and in person. You're a smark.
But are you proud of that distinction?
Some of us gladly wear our smark badges with pride. We enjoy rattling off information to marks on the internet and at shows. Then again, some of us feel a secret shame towards being a smark. We'd never divulge our knowledge unsolicited and would rather just be left alone with our pro wrestling fanaticism.
Which side of the fence are you on?

I'm not voting because I don't like classifying every wrestling fan who enjoys discussing it on the internet into a single collective with a single train of thought...
Especially with all of the examples you gave... I think it's hard for everyone to agree with one set of cliches.
Now under my OWN definition... I'm not PROUD to be a member of a "group" that discusses wrestling on the net, but I'm not ashamed of it by any means.
I take what I do at my own speed... and even tho some fans kinda make me roll my eyes with how serious they take the shows and events, I still find myself curious to read other peoples takes on things.

I enjoy wrestling, and discussion of it's led me to some cool people over the years.
If that's a good definition, then sure I guess.

That makes me proud.

No I wish the knowledge and love that I have for wrestling was in something I could enjoy with my family and friends rather than something I'm usually alone watching and loving.

I think smarks respect the industry a lot more than regular fans.

meh not really proud of my geekiness, that's why i'm never bringing wrestling up unless i'm around other wrestling fans.
same thing that grates me about Star Trek and Star Wars fans, they chastise you for not liking it.
Wrestling fans are the most defensive fans in the world of geekdom

Which side of the fence are you on? I don't look at Dirt Sheets, I consider myself NOT a Smark. Honestly, I do enjoy watching WWE's ECW and Smackdown shows, I enjoy both "Workrate and "Character", and I DESPISE NOAH.

I'm neither. I'm a wrestling fan. I have no interest in the carny labels and the connotations - often negative - that they may hold.

All of us are different. I'm a fan of the Larger American Indy companies. And anytime there is a tournament I'm down to watch it, regardless of the in ring product.
I hate the use of "smark" because that means to be a "mark" is a bad thing. A mark is a fan, and no matter who you are, if you watch ROH, TNA, WWE, Indies, Puro or Lucha, you'll always be a fan. Therefore always being a mark. Whether you're in the crowd, backstage or in the ring you'll always be a mark. And if you aren't, stay far far far away from wrestling.

No why would I proud of that? I watch a guy who seems to think he's a lizard pretending to fight an albino in a school gym and comment on it on the internet? It's not like I created a cure for cancer, climbed everest or defrosted the freezer.
I'd rather leave marks in the blissful ignorance than have them worry about who has nuclear heat this week.
I'm not a smark by the OP definition but I do consider myslef one by the fact I post on the net. I don't have a problem people knowing I'm a wrestling fan (although I don't set out to tell people) however I downplay how big a fan I am and would never admit I post here.

I wouldn't say I'm "proud". To say I take pride in it inplies that I work at it. I don't, it just comes to me.
But I do get annoyed how everyone goes around now downing "smarks" who don't fall in line with the WWE mentality and think questioning idiotic decisions is being a big douche.

I was actually thinking about the smark label today.
The term "Smart Mark" is actually an oxymoron. How can one really be smart to the business, and be a mark at the same time?
The term mark is someone who believes something that isn't real. It's like on the Simpsons, when Homer and Bart were trying to con people out of money by dressing up Bart as something to get sympathy, and they would use the term mark to call their victims.
So really, if you're smart to something that isn't real, then how could one end up being a mark in the first place, or vice versa. Here's an example.
William Regal. Everytime a poll comes up on who is the biggest bad ass in the WWE, Regal is usually the guy out on top. Everyone who voted Regal is a complete and total mark. Dave Taylor told Raven that the whole deal with Regal being a carny tough guy at 15 is all a work. It never happened. It was done to give Regal some credibility when he got into the business. Now, I don't know for sure if Regal is a tough guy or not, but if you're basing it on that story, it's not true.
And internet writers, Bryan Alverez is a good example, is a mark. Most of his opinions are ridden with his biased opinion, and most of what he reports for some reason ends up being wrong, and he's not willing to retract the statement, he just says, oh, my source said it was true. Well, then your source maybe full of shit.
No fan is truely ever smart, because some wrestlers might just be working. Hell, maybe, just maybe, everything Triple H has done to other wrestlers, and burying people and such. Maybe that was all an elaborate work to make people hate Triple H. Hey, you never know. But yeah, I was just thinking about all of this today.
