en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TNA_World_Heavyweight_ChampionshipAccording to this, TNA doesn't recognize Christian Cage as the first TNA World Heavyweight Champion, even though they handed him the strap when they switched in their new title for the NWA belt. Why was Kurt only the first "official" champ a month later?

They were "stripped" of the titles via the internet by some douche from the NWA, Christian ever held the TNA belt.

He was never given the title. The first time the TNA title made an appearance, Kurt Angle wore it out to the arena the night after the crazy ending at Sacrifice. Cornette then said that Angle isnt and never was the rightful champ, and thus he made the KOTM match the first match in which the TNA title would be contested for.

I thought on that episode of TNA today where they introduced the new belts, they handed Christian the TNA WH title. I guess my recollection is incorrect?
The page also says that Christian immediately became the first TNA WH champ when they lost the NWA belts, and yet it also still says TNA doesn't recognize his reign (granted, it would have amounted to less than a day). Do they consider the title vacant from its inception at the time of the NWA title being stripped up until Kurt's win in June?

I'm pretty sure the title was vacant when it was revealed on TNA Today.

Immedietly after they were stripped, TNA was no longer allowed to use the name NWA, but used the belt for the ppv (the one where there was the screwey finish then Cornette vacated it on Impact). I believe Christian was referred to as "TNA World Champion" instead of "NWA World Champion" when he unsuccessfully defended it that night, but it was still the NWA belt, and TNA didn't officially crown their first champion with their own belt until the next month.

Why was Kurt only the first "official" champ a month later? I thought on TNA's website they recognized Abyss and Christian as former World champions. IMO they should just do what WCW used to do and count people holding the NWA Title in TNA as former champions. Otherwise it's like saying their first 5 years didn't really count.

They do recognize them as former world champs, just NWA instead of TNA. Christian and Abyss are former World Champions, they arent former "TNA World Heavyweight Champions" They always just say "World Champion", though, and dont bother explaining the NWA/TNA part. Good thing too, 95% of this board would think its confusing.

They were "stripped" of the titles via the internet by some douche from the NWA, Christian ever held the TNA belt. they "douche" stipped Christian of the NWA World Championship because the NWA and TNA were parting ways once and for all. it was well known TNA was making their own championships and its not like the NWA stripping them came from way out of left field

Na, Borash just showed it off www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRiXuRIDFzY[/quote]when watching this clip am I the only one who thinks Borash is one of the more underrated parts of iMPACT? I mean sure he gets a lot of airtime due to the fact that he's an interviewer but he is a very good performer especially when working with AJ Styles and Eric Young and I think he was in rare form on last night's show. For example I loved the work between him and Don West during the insane deals part of this clip when Borash is playing the part of guy who thinks offering these great deals might be perceived as a form of insubordination by management... Oh yea but the new TNA belt, I always thought they should've waited until Slammiversary for the switchover at the end of the king of the mountain match. Have Kurt place the NWA belt on the hook, have the hook ascend to the rafters and then descend back down to the ring with the new belt on it.

Tigermaskxxxvii you should write TNA Impact and PPV's. That was a soundly good idea. this forum is about the TNA WHC so allow me to schill and say that it is a gorgeous piece of feaux gold. Dave Millican in FL did all the new TNA belts and did them right. Anyone in here make belts?

Anyone in here make belts? yea the new WHC belt is definitely a step up from the NWA belt, which besides the plates on the strap with the different nations' flags the belt does not offer alot aesthetically IMO, the reason the NWA keeps around is probably more tradition than anything else.
