Does anyone else find it ironic that Micheal "Not This Way" Cole can rip anyone, anywhere for their announcing? Isn't that like Keith Richards doing an anti-drug commercial? Oh, wait, he DID do an anti-drug commercial. Damn it. Or Ozzy Osbourne.... oh wait, he did too!

I didn't realize they were ripping on Coach the whole show. I was tuning in and out because of playoff hockey.
If that's the case then I guess WWE is trying to send some kind of message. Otherwise it really makes no sense for them to have a heel bury the heel announcer, who is just doing his job. If anything it would just give fans a reason not to watch Smackdown (worst wrestling PBP combo ever).
Why is this a spoiler? Didn't Smackdown air last night?

Me thinks Coach has a good contract and cant be outright fired without a killer severance package.

Frankly I feel this is the WWE's way of apologizing for subjecting us to Coach's commentary since 2004 (or maybe even earlier), and since Coach really really really sucks it makes sense for Cole to be able to berate the hell out of him. True, but at this point it'd be like Saddam giving Hitler a scolding.

I feel bad. If WWE think Coach sucks, pull him off commentary. They shouldn't bury him for doing a job he's told to do. It's like when WWE wanted Joey Styles to be more like J.R even though they picked him over J.R. He can't win.

i think it will be his gimmick by now : poor color man of color ripped by evil michael cole. This is a good way to make us love him : so bad that he's funny. In fact I started loving him when MVP humiliated him, it works!

I can never forget that in the Summer of 03, he almost ruined a perfectly good HBK/Y2J match with his awful commentary.

I really don't hate coach. He has got a pretty soothing announcing voice over most of the others. It's nice sometimes.

i'm watching Smackdown and Coach has been ripped practicallly the whole show in the opening tag match Coach talks about how Morrison and Miz have improved and Cole says ''why haven't you Coach?'' MVP joins them on the announce table and is frequently talking to Michael Cole and telling Coach to shut up. during the match Coach says ''can i ask a question'' and MVP just says no. Isn't Coach meant to be the heel? The funniest part was when MVP said WWE Fans voted Michael Cole and JBL the sixth greatest announce team ever but voted Cole and Coach the worst ever MVP then asks why is that and Coach falls silent i actually feel sorry for Coach Is Coach a face or heel commentator? He seems to be a tweener. I absolutely loathe tweener commentators.

Coach does fairly decent when he does college football. Somehow, it doesn't seem to translate well into wrestling commentating. Because he's probably not trying to sound like an asshole and failing at it while doing college football commentary Maybe it's just me, but being a heel commentator doesn't seem like a hard job. You root for the bad guys, decry when they lose, excuse their cheating, kiss up to the heels if they are guest annoucing (which Coach tried to do but MVP for some reason wasn't going along with it), excuse the heels when the lose, brag about the heel's tenacity when they win in a suspecious way, etc. I think Coach can do it. The question I have is if creative is letting him do it.

People can rip on Michael Cole but it's about damn time he got some respect, the guy is the smoothest announcer i've seen in years. Cole is a true Play-by-Play, he doesn't bother you with his voice, doesn't miss a beat and most importantly does his job. The usual criticism is that "Cole doesnt know wrestling", he knows wrestling well enough because he isn't the colour man. Play-by-Play needs to be a professional thats it, he only sets up the questions for the colour man who's supposed to be the expert. Too bad that Coach is no expert. Right now the team is lacking dynamic, when JBL & Cole were together the roles were clear.

Right now the team is lacking dynamic, when JBL & Cole were together the roles were clear. I completely agree with you on the last point, but I just don't see Cole as smooth at all. The main problem I have with him is that he is SO damn defensive. From "Hey, hey listen smurfhead" to last week, when it really sounded like he said "sea-side battle," and Coach (jokingly) called him on it, and Cole says "I said SEESAW. Get your ears checked." I remember another spot, on a PPV I believe, where Cole incorrectly called a headscissors a hurrcanrana. JBL: "That's a headscissors, Micheal. Not a hurracanrana" Cole: "Why not?" At least JBL saved it with "because I said so." Coach has no idea if he's a face, heel, tweener, or if he's even supposed to be arguing with Cole or not.

I noticed this too, and the repeated mentions of it on SD! made it seem purposeful.

I think instead of the WWE just letting Coach continue with all the criticism he has been getting, they try and have some fun with it. That means that instead of ignoring it, the fans feel like they are being heard and influencing the show more.
For what it's worth I don't mind Coach, or Cole. I think it could be a cool side gimmick for Coach though if he is just so much of a kiss ass, snivelling weasel that even the heels don't like him when he sucks up to them. It at least adds some dynamic to the commentary team, because right now Coach doesn't seem to be an all out heel. I'm not sure why, they obviously have a reason for not letting him, I just don't know what it is.

I actually don't mind Coach
Cole is the weak link in the team IMO as he always is no matter who he teams with
You could put Coach with Mike Adamle and Mike would be the better of the 2 I bet

I'd never thought I'd see the day Cole wouldn't be the abused in the relationship
I guess the Heidenrape, John Cena homo jokes about Cole loving sausage, Tazz's bullying, and JBL insults, rants and SHUT UP!'s finally caught up with him
