It's an interesting topic of discussion. There are a whole bunch of children and grandchildren of wrestlers in WWE right now. Carlito - Carlos Colon Randy Orton - Bob Orton Jr./Bob Orton Sr. Umaga - Afa/Siki as uncles DH Smith - British Bulldog/Stu Hart Cody Rhodes - Dusty Rhodes Ted Dibiase Jr. - Ted Dibiase Sr./Iron Mike Dibiase Mike Dibiase - Ted Dibiase Sr./Iron Mike Dibiase (likely who's going to be brought in as a tag team partner) Natalya Neidhart - Jim Neidhart/Stu Hart Deuce - Jimmy Snuka Jesse - Terry Gordy Chavo Guerrero - Chavo Guerrero Sr/Gory Guerrero There's probably more. Usually the 2nd or 3rd generation wrestlers end up being the best ones, because they have it in their family. Also, Mr. Perfect's kids, Amy and Joe are in developmental right now. I think like, maybe it is better to debut guys with new characters and not focus on their family, like Carlito did, and Jesse and Deuce are doing now as well. Trevor Murdoch? Rey Mysterio? Neither are second (or third) generation wrestlers.

Rey counts, Murdoch doesn't. Murdoch is a gimmick name. His real name is Rhodes. And of course the Rhodes' real names are Runnels.

because they are made out to be like their parents, who by todays standards were somewat generic What? Dusty Rhodes or Ted Dibiase were a million miles from generic. What a baseless, ignorant comment.

I don't think this matters too much, Steve Austin wrestled in black trunks and black boots and was one of the most over guys there ever was.

I don't mine the whole second gen thing. I care more about Ted Jr. just because of his dad than I would if the same guy just randomly popped up.

Trevor Murdoch? Rey Mysterio? Neither are second (or third) generation wrestlers. I Think he was being comedic. Most just get The "Cheer For Me Because My Dad's A Wrestler To" Push.

I say give it time. After all, I don't think anyone could've seen the Blue Chipper Rocky Maivia becoming The Rock, one of the most popular and entertaining wrestlers of all time, back in 1996.

I agree that second generation wrestlers can benefit from a unique gimmick. That is the specific reason (or so I heard) why Dustin Rhodes wanted to become Goldust. He wanted to become his own persona, and not just Dusty's kid.

That's true, and of course being Goldust worked a lot better for him than Being Dusty Jr. However, it may have benefitted him to have already had that kind of television experience, so if you take that into account, it might not be such a bad thing that they're giving these guys a little TV even if they're not quite ready for the big time.

It's what WWE wants. They like muscles, short hair, and generic tights. It's pretty dumb to me because to me, difference is the key to wrestling, but thats the look WWE wants.
I also want to point out that I'm pretty sure Ted's partner won't be Mike Dibiase. Mike's not signed.

Ted Jr. is hundreds of times more charismatic the CAWdy. ...not really. Cody actually comes across well on the mic. Dibiase Jr. was awkward and generic. I disagree about Cody...The guy says two lines and suddenly he is a great mic worker, anyone could have said those lines better BTW you know without the lisp. Td Jr, seemed nervous, and generic as all hell but at least he is a heel so there is going to be at least an attempt of personality, unlike Harry Smith, Randy Ortons debut, Cody Rhodes etc.

He didn't seem completely out of place on the mic, he just seemed really nervous. It's normal for the fact that you know you're on live TV for the first time in front of millions of fans worldwide and probably in front of the biggest crowd he's ever been in front of. And you're asked to get on the stick and cut these lines creative wrote for you? Give it time to develop and I think he can make something of it, he was getting boo's which is the job as a heel, and more than half the heels in the company can do so kudos to him for that.

Because WWE seems to think that being 2nd or 3rd generation is enough to get over, even though they have no gimmick at all.

Like others have said WWE pretty much just rests on their laurels thinking that the guy just being whoever's kid is enough to get them over. The problem is many of the current fans are often too young to really remember who that guy's father was or what he did.

Living off their father's accomplishments. We're supposed to care about Cody, DiBiase and DH for example because of their famous parents.
They don't get assigned a character like 1st generation stars tend to for this simple reason.
Though for the record I thought DiBiase Jr. was quite good on the mic yesterday, in spite of people using the stupid "what?" chant on him.

I don't know how this will go over since I know the majority of our current posters are pretty young, but I think it speaks to the state of our youth in general these days. Maybe its down to fashion and style, or what is accepted, but most guys in Dibiase Jr.' and Cody's age range are pretty bland these days regardless. In the 70's and 80's it was a little more stylish (as weird as that sounds, you'd think it'd be the other way around, but we're not as hip as we'd like to think these days) and acceptable for men to have longer hair, and as someone pointed out "frizzy hair" (everyone didn't gel or flat iron themselves into blandness) and hell, even having a normal body shape (not the cut, beer commercial running down the beach fratboy body that every new wrestler has) as wrestlers often did back then, made them stand apart from one another. Also, on the other side of the coin, one could also point out that it would be easier to stand out and be flashy in that era because so many guys did have bland, solid color basic trunks and boots and a simple ring jacket or long tights with airbrush design could really make you pop on tv when facing the jobbers we were fed before the days of ppv matches on tv every week.
Nowadays, these kids come up with the same body, the same tribal-this-tribal-that tights and tats as someone also pointed out, and the same clean cut fratboy haircuts, no facial hair (another thing that was cool back in the day and made for more "manly" and unique looks. Can you imagine Ole or Arn Anderson being badass enforcers with a clean shaven face?) and they're reading from a script instead of cutting real promos based on what they (haven't) learned from paying their dues and cutting their teeth in the territories/indies.
