I'm watching 24/7 on Demand and the legends (Mick Foley, Michael Hayes, Mean Gene, Dusty Rhodes, Pat Patterson) are sitting around the table discussing the worst gimmicks of all time, and it comes to Michael Hayes. He says that he remembers Harlem Heat coming to the ring managed by Robert Fuller (colonel parker) and he said that they were led to the ring in chains and he claims that he saw the gimmick and thought "Oh man that is wrong."
So now he's not making the racial comments anymore? I just found that interesting.

See the Booker T comments on this matter. If they are valid, they explain this comment.

See the Booker T comments on this matter. If they are valid, they explain this comment. Exactly. I don't think Michael Hayes is a racist at all. I think he has just created enemies with past WWE writers who are trying to bring him down now.

I think he has just created enemies with past WWE writers who are trying to bring him down now. I'm sure the people here who wish to see Hayes fired will now say Booker T is lying (for some unspecific reason) and that on WWE 24/7 Hayes is covering his ass. Both of which are equally silly notions, because if Booker T was lying then so would the BTR guys who have said that Hayes isn't really a hateful racist person, he just throws the word around a bit too freely.

He meant "that's wrong" because instead he wanted them to be pulled out by a truck on chains.

Does video footage of Harlem Heat's debut (in chains) exist? I keep reading about it but I never saw this

If what Booker said is right then i doubt Hayes is actually a racist. He obviously said the wrong thing to Mark Henry and Henry took offence. People are far to over the top about language sometimes; thats what allows certain words to continue their offensive nature. In my mind it's the feeling behind a word that counts, not the word itself.
Im not sure he could really be defending himself here, as surely if he is suspended, then this show muist have been taped before that rather than say yesterday?

I think Hayes is one of those people who believe there are black people, and then there are... y'know... the "n"-word. Same for how there are white people, and white trash.... every race and creed has their upside and downside... just not everyone groups them together.
Anyone Hayes either doesn't think highly of, has rubbed him the wrong way, or is just upset with or about.... will get the nasty word. Just like how we wouldn't call someone who just upset us, "This fine gentleman cut me off." we'd say, "That motherf***er cut me off!" Now.. we don't actually believe he goes home and f***s his mother, your mother, or anybody's mother but his children's.... but we call him that.
Hayes has been brought up with the "You wear your colors, I'll wear mine" idea.. so I think he tosses that word around out like we would any other derogatory word, not really taking into account the fact it's racially motivated. I believe it's just something he says....
I guess it all boils down to, I doubt Hayes is racist.. he just has a poor "go-to" word when he is upset.

I could be wrong, but I believe they do several of those roundtable discussions all at one taping, so I'd imagine this was done quite some time ago. Someone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that.

From what I've read about the whole Hayes incident. Michael Hayes was being a dumbass. I cannot say whether or not he is a racist though.

Hayes is a Randy Marsh N-Guy, not a real N-Guy, so he's going the Randy Marsh route of trying to correct for it, I guess.

I believe the incident probably took place in 1993 as Harlem Heat debuted in 93 along with Colonel Parker. Hayes said that this incident almost got them kicked off of Turner Broadcasting.

Anyone can be made into a racist these days, and honestly everyone is a little racist, whether you are black, white, or mexican. Would you honestly feel more comfortable in a room full of black people if you are white or a room full of white people? If you say I am full of crap you are probably just lying to make yourself feel better. Hayes probably has racist tendencies, he is from the south and I would bet he was raised that way. But he can still be against slavery and Jim Crow laws, he just had a southern upbringing and might throw the N-bomb around when he is upset(obviously the wrong thing to do, but I bet in WCCW no one cared about that!) I am not defending him, but just making a point, and the truth is who even knows if he really even said it or Mark Henry was just mad because Hayes might have called him a bad worker?
