Obviously Austin, but HBK was the best of the time. But when you think Attitude you think Austin. Like when you think late 80's you think Hogan.

Austin is easily no. 1, but I'd give a nod to the Godfather and his Ho train, which probably couldn't have occurred under any other circimstances.

Austin got it started, but ratings were at their best while Austin was hurt and Rock was the #1 guy.
I'll take Rock by a razor thin margin.

well after about 4 days it sems you think Stone cold is the superstar that personifies the Attitude era, with 32 votes as much as i agree, I think Vince's oinvolment made it wat it was. 1. Stone Cold Steve Austin Votes: 32 of 49 Most say the attitude era was created when Shawn Micheals put Bret hart in the sharpshooter and basically was given the WWF championship due to Vince telling the time keeper to 'ring the damn bell' although bret didnt even tap out. Hart then jumped to WCW. even though this was the start of Mr. McMahon introducing himself as 'the boss' which later became Austins biggest rival. Others say the 'attitude' was born when Steve Austin won King of The Ring in 1996 as he quoted the immortal lines 'Austin 3:16 say he just wooped your ass'. It has been difficult to place austin as a heel or a face as he acts as a heel by breaking the rules, and doing things for his own benifit. Yet he got cheered and did these things towards major heels such as Vince and The Rock. But there has been occasions when he has turned his back on the fans and became heel. One time notabily would be when he joined the 'alliance' and betrayed his WWF team. from 1996 Austin won a plethera of titles including the WWF World championship.

If Austin and Rock were both 100% healthy and were 100% committed to coming back full time, and the WWE could only hire one of them back... Who would they choose? The answer is this man by a mile...
