My grandfather's video store I have worked at for 10 years was broken into last night.
I was up here for a while when the police called.
I'm not one to normally share my life's problems on the board but I'm super pissed and stressed right now. Good thing is I know who did it, or at least the group that did it. Any of the people I share my work stories with may recall that group of punk ass kids I always talk about.
Anyway, I'm busy doing stuff right now. I'll give details later.... maybe.
Them kids (12-16 year olds) better hope I don't see them again... but I will they come up here all the time

Boys will be boys.... no, get them Deadpool. At 12-16, I was a punk but never a vandal. Go any route but physical violence obviously. Were it just the place you worked at, whatever. But I'd imagine it was a business your papaw built of his own design and that should be respected.

There are 16 year olds who hang out with 12 year olds? Thats more than a touch pathetic right out the gate.
I don't even know what I'd do in your shoes. All I know is what I'd want to do.

They stole a coin game we had with about $150 in change in it, I'll say that. I don't wish to get into details of what was taken. They looked for more, but were to stupid to know where to look... or to take the tapes out of the VCRs. Hopefully the police get him. About three officers on the force know us well (I work in a real small town outside of the city I live) so hopefully that will get that to try all the harder. This is my first time hearing about you (as far as personal life goes), so what are these kids like? They live in the projects here in Farmville (where I work, not live) and ride their bikes or walk up here on a path behind the shopping center. They have been coming up here and vandalising, shoplifting and talking crap for years. This shopping center used to be lively, but since it died they have busted the windows out of every empty building five times over. I caught them trying to steal out of my drawer once, they sneak to the back adult room all the time, they snuck to the back and stole $200 of quarters one time. They've been banned but that don't mean crap to them. I had to kick them out again last night before I closed when they came in and then started snooping around the door to the back again. Basically, you'll just have to take my word for it. I have 10 years of experience in this location. If it's not them in particular, they know who it was. They have a band of theives and criminals amongst all those kids. I have very good customers and very good friends I made through working at the store that live back there, and even they all talk about how bad those kids are back there.

What about installing a surveillance camera set around the store, outside the doors, etc? Surely THAT would be a deterrent?
For the record, I feel for you, as I know what it is like to have something you treasure vandalized.

TTKC, We do have surveillence cameras up and recording.
Lucky for us, they were to stupid to look for and take the tapes. So we have one really good angle featuring their break in, coming in the store, their faces, their clothing, what they tried to and did do.
We got another angle that wasn't so good at IDing them, but was good for height comparisons, their break in, their running away and what kind of bicycles they were on (you could see them outside through the window).
We have another camera for the adult room, but that's really useless in the case of a break in because it's nothing but empty boxes back there. That's more for while we're open.
I would like to get another camera or two. One more for another inside angle, and one for outside. We're in a strip mall and have a canopy over the sidewalk so it would be easy to protect from the weather and to hide in a corner where it won't be seen.
Also, thank you for the kind words. These stores mean a lot to me as they have been a big part of my life for a long time now. I always wanted to take them over one day. Those that know me really well know the time and emotion I have invested in them and my family.

I hope that the tapes will be proof enough to prosecute these little jagoffs.

Damn bro, usually with your daily work stories it's just tales of annoyance... this is a whole different ballpark.
I know how much the store means to you so this is terrible news to hear, hopefully this will get sorted out and any damage done can be repaired... (most hopefully financially repaired).

Jeez, what jerkwads. If I were you, I'd start taking a baseball bat to work and putting it in plain sight. Really, it could work, the intimidation factor might scare them.

Does your grampa own a porn video store? Because that would be so cool!
I'd start with their bikes. If you know where they live, make their bikes disappear one at a time. Then mutilate the hell out of their bikes and bring them back to their house and leave an anonymous letter on it. Its not violent but it gets the point across
