You know who you are.
You're the person that won't touch Resident Evil 4, but when a boyfriend/girlfriend/friend does, you hang out behind them and complain they aren't doing something right.
You tell them to go left when they are heading right.
You scream 'Don't Do THAT!' at them when they go for the Tommy gun instead of the hunting knife.
I am guilty of this.
So my brethren, show thine self.

certain games are worth being the backseat gamer, usually on survivor horror games cause you get to scream out "SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET INTO THAT DOOR?!", but a game like Socom or Metal Gear you really have to trust the other player's intentions.

I try to help theorize on games where you're to solve puzzles or maps get you turned around and stuff like that. I try to do so respectfully. If someone's playing a game wrong, I bite my tongue as I hate backseat gamers and refuse to be one myself. So, yes and no, I guess.

It's almost impossible to not be a backseat gamer while watching someone play a survival horror game. I usually stay quiet otherwise, because it's fun to just watch them play.

I don't watch friends play games TYPICALLY. I end up playing with them, so it turns out alright.

Not really. On occassion I might say "hey, what was that over there?" if I thought I saw something useful, but usually I just don't say anything because I'm not paying a ton of attention. Unless it's a wrestling game, then I tend to do commentary. Especially the THQ 64 games. BAH GAWD ANOTHER GRAPPLE, KANG!

I only make comments to people playing games when I feel it is actually useful or if the guy/girl playing is trying a game *I* own and need some advices as they don't master the gameplay yet. Other than that, I keep my mouth shut. Most of the time, I don't just watch them play though, I usually play with them. And I hate it when I have backseat gamers. (oh and I kid, MGMGM. You know I wuv you. ... but don't be a backseat gamer )

I can't say that I am. The only thing that is more boring to me than watching someone else play video games is watching someone else shop.

I usually just do it on survival horror games. If he's playing anything else, I just ask questions about the storyline.

When my buddy was learning how to play Call of Duty 4, I was spotter for him. helping him see enemies(the dude could have a guy directly in front of him dead to rights, and would turn and go another way and get killed, then wonder why).

I think the only genres where it is acceptable are:
- Survival Horror(as, well, the games can drag anyone in the room into the game, making anyone watching involved. - Party Games(Well, it is a party, everyone is meant to be loud and talking) - Music/Rhythm Games(Like Rock Band, DDR, or Guitar Hero)
