I was just watching the Transformers movie and was thinking Megatron is a complete moron for a guy supposedly in charge of the decepticons. Whilst Starscream comes across as a badass and tactical genius.
Megatron - Crashed in the arctic and was frozen for thousands of years - Is kept frozen by humans for another hundred - Is obsessed with the cube not making any battle plan whatsoever. (Unless destory anything in that city that moves is a plan) -Can't catch a small human on foot. - Gets pounded in broad daylight by Optimus and anyone elese with a gun. - Is killed in the end by Shia LeBoef putting a cube in his chest. - Body dumped in the ocean
Starscream - Clearly in charge of organising the Quatar attack, and the rest of the decpeticons being 2nd in command. - Seemingly infiltrated the Airforce himself as a Fighter Jet with no one noticing. - Took down the powe of the dam, thus releasing Megatron - Was first to attack in the city, maiming Bumblebee. - Destroys the rescue copter, stopping the cubes escape. - Stays back in camoflage to destroy the rest of the Fighter Jets - Escapes into space to find reinforcements without taking any noticable damage in the entire movie.
I expect the sequel to fetaure Starscream in charge as he clearly outclassed Megatron in the movie in every aspect.

Unfortunately I can't help myself when I say this: it's because the Transfomers "re-imagining" movie sucked.

Megatron, he's intelligent, pragmatic, knows when he's beat (Though sometimes it takes awhile to figure that out), and absolutely viscious.
Unfortunatley, he was only one of these tings in the movie.

I'd probably say that the Decepticons have some kind of leadership system where if you kill the last leader then you become the new one. That's probably why Megatron is the boss

He's in charge because he is the most powerful. He was the former Lord High Protector on Cybertron after all. He will do what ever it takes to gain the allspark, but lacks foresight. He rushed to earth without considering what entering the atmosphere would do to him when he landed. He was too arrogant to take an earth alternate mode, which would have helped camoflauge him to some extent. But he was still the most powerful of the decepticons, whereas Starscream was more of a coward, albeit a crafty one. Taken from: transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Megatron_%28Movie%29"The brother of Optimus Prime as well as former Lord High Protector and co-ruler of Cybertron, Megatron is vicious and extremely powerful, single-minded in his goals, straight forward and brutally direct in his attempts to seize those goals. He is all "blunt force" in contrast to Starscream's penchant for deceit and trickery. On the downside, Megatron tends to become so obsessed with the object of his desires that he can ignore "secondary" matters, glaring flaws in his plans (otherwise, he likely wouldn't have melted into ice-cold arctic water after being white hot from falling through Earth's atmosphere, and spent ten-thousand years as a popsicle), and even crippling injuries in pursuit of the coveted item. Trying to talk Megatron out of blindly going for his goals is useless. He will risk his world, his troops, and even his own spark to achieve his goals. These things do not matter to Megatron. Even the destruction of the Autobots is a secondary concern. All that matters is the All Spark. While some merely dislike or disregard organics (since they have a tendency to get in their way), Megatron feels a violent hatred towards them and seems to view them as only slightly above a virus, with him as the cure. This may be due to having spent decades as their prisoner, but his hatred is still very extreme. If there was no All Spark, it is not that big a stretch to think he'd have come here anyway, just to cleanse one more planet of its infection."

Megatron is Primes brother? Why didnt they explore that more in the film? Because they saved it be a powerful line after the battle. "You left me no choice, brother."
