I was watching Begins earlier today. Still a rad movie, gets better each time I watch it.
But man, the way Bale talks as Batman. It's almost sort of funny. Because it's a voice we can all probably make. And it strains my voice to imitate it, so I know it strained his.
But I thought about it and I've realized that most people characterize Batman as having a deep raspy voice, that almost sorta sounds like he's losing it.
It's almost a prerequisite that most feral animal based superheroes talk in this manner.
I wonder how this got started?

For Bats, I believe he started using it in the comics to make him sound different from Bruce Wayne (Superman does the same thing with his voice), and making it sound like that would add to the intimidation factor.

That's just the way I always talk. Got a problem?

I don't know. You couldn't too well have heroes walking around sounding like Jerry Lewis, I guess.

Nah...it just seems like if Bruce really wanted to distance himself from Batman, he'd speak with like...I dunno, a foreign accent.
That's right, I said it. Le Batman.

Yeah, he speaks all deep and raspy as Batman to not sound like Bruce. Then again, maybe he could've just deepened his voice instead of going for the raspy part as well.

They should just have him use some voice altering gizmo.

They should just have him use some voice altering gizmo. Certainly, it's not as if he can't afford one or two.

yeah, that's the one thing that bugged me about Bale's Batman.... it's like a super-hero with cookie monster vocals.

Bale did lose his voice two or three times during filming of Begins, for the Batman voice so hopefully Dark Knight was easier for his vocal chords.
It took me out of the movie the first time, just seemed as if he was poorly knocking off Kevin Conroy's Bats voice. I mean, still an excellent movie, just...weird.

Fixed for non-gay....I mean, Fren...no, I meant gay. (If anyone here is French, I'M JOKING) But seriously, fixed for (slight) realism. After all, isn't Batman (slightly) based off of Zorro?

El Batman was the joke I was originally going to go for, but I decided French Speakin' Batman would be funnier.
