Ok let me put it like this: If I can't get away with angst at stupid things neither should these people who aren't even real. There's nothing inherently wrong with angst, but when you have too many protagonists being angsty and whiny it tends to make you want to wonder why the hell that's considered good characterization when in the real world it usually gets you a good dropkicking.
Not sure where I was going with that, the point being that after spending way too much time seeing "Angst and Self-Loathing in Feudal Japan" (a.k.a. Inuyasha) I came to the conclusion that there are far too many angst-ridden heroes (and villains, and ambivalent characters) coming out of the land of the Rising Sun
