consumerist.com/tag/southwest/?i=5022579&t=southwest-airlines-says-family-is-too-unruly-to-flyI saw this on consumerist today and I thought it was a pretty good story that proves that parenting is going downhill. I personally think that Southwest was in the right to kick her off. She even admitted her kids were unruly. I know that 2 of the were handicapped, however that does not excuse their behavior and the other passengers have the right to fly in peace with out little brats causing trouble. What does everyone else think about this?

If I were one of those kids, and I got my parents kicked off an airplane...yeah, I'd still be getting my ass whipped, five years plus after I moved out. My dad would come over to see me..."Hey, Jeremy. How you doing? Just came by to say I still love you..oh, hey..." *punches me backwards through the wall* "Be good, son."
But no...parents these days are too good to smack their kids once in a while. A quick light tap when they're still learning is a hundred thousand times better than the alternative, which is waiting for somebody else to knock some sense into your unruly disrespectful children. And if someone else does it, they might not stop until they knock brain matter or other precious organ tissue loose.

Nowadays, you smack your kid when they're misbehaving and some self-righteous douchebag will call CPS on you. Parents these days try to be more of a friend to their brood than a, you know, parent. How else do you explain those snotty little bitches on My Super Sweet 16? God, if one of those hellspawn sprung forth from my loins, they'd be walking with a limp by the time they were 6.

What bothers me is her saying "And they're kids" like its an excuse for bad behavior. Unfortunate situation but Southwest has a duty to ensure a safe flight for all its passengers.

Me being a TSA "officer" and all, I see a TON of people who deserve not to fly. For a nation that was in mourning after 9/11, people seem to be really unreasonable towards keeping things safe. Or, at least, our definiton of "safe".

That's why when you travel with kids, you make them run around before or in the terminal to tire them out a bit. That's how my parents got me to sleep on those long car rides.
I'm more bothered that the mother admits that her children were out of control and disruptive, yet is still asking for money from the airline.

The kids were just upset about the airline food. They wanted to know what the deal was with it.

In any other situation I'd agree with you 100% but the one kid had cerebral palsy and the other was autistic so this is entirely the parents fault because they should have known the kids wouldn't be able to handle flying for that long. I mean, it didn't say the severity, but Cerebral Palsy can be as little a limp and slightly slurred speech and live normal lives or it can be as severe as basically be mentally retarded, I've seen both degrees. Neither of those kids should have been flying, that's for damn sure EDIT: I reread the article, and I thought it was only the 2 disabled kids, not 2 disabled and 2 healthy kids. The 2 healthy kids should have the asses kicked from one end of the state to the other

I agree with Southwest on this.
You're in an airplane 30,000 feet above the ground, you better make sure your kids aren't causing a disturbance. One little kid throws something at one of the windows, and there's the possibility that it turns into an extremely bad situation.

I can see she did a "real good job" parenting. Kids learn by example, I'm willing to beat Mom is a nightmare to be around also. My daughter is only 5 and not only behaves, but even says Please, Thank You, Excuse Me, and Pardon? all on her damn own.

Reasonable, I hate kids on airplanes.
16 Hour Flight to South Korea and there were at least two toddlers and a baby on board.
Why God? Why?

I've found the key to keeping a kid quiet on an airplane - I've done this all the time with my daughter since she was little and it works like a charm. I buy her small toys from the dollar store and gift wrap them (I don't know why, it just makes them "extra special") and I bring one out every 20 minutes or so. I can usually keep her quiet for a good 2 - 3 hours that way and usually hear "Wow, didn't even know you had a child with you!" when the flight is over.

I would give a toy to my perfectly quiet & content child to keep her perfectly quiet & content even longer.
