...Wrestlecrap with a LETHAL DOSE...of POISON!
IF ANYBODY'S GONNA KILL...RD REYNOLDS'S CREATION, it's gonna be me! I'M GOING TO DO IT!
McMahon is half-past nuts. And that's why he's great.

The thing I always found funny was that technically, the "WWF" DID die a few months later with the name change and all.
He was right!

Thing is, I can only find this recap, not the original footage which I remember seeing at the time. The pop when he turned the chair must've been insane

If I recall correctly, the live crowd audio wasn't there during at least this final segment of McMahon talking to himself. It was just silent after he turned around, so I guess we're left only to speculate what the pop was.

We can look back on the nWo in WWE as a failure, but man did Hogan, Hall, and Nash coming back to WWE get a lot of buzz. It was pretty hot until Hall and Nash turned on Hogan and added X-Pac and once Hall's demons crept up and Nash injured himself, it all went to Hell.
I remember some of my old buddies from high school were all buzzing about it and they started watching again after they had quit watching wrestling around 1999 or 2000. Those first few weeks with Hogan, Hall, and Nash were very exciting.

I knew the nWo was going to be a bust when Nash didn't have an opponent at that years Wrestlemania.

The Toronto smakrks smurfed it all up by trying to be cool and cheer Hogan and boo Rock. It made the atmosphere for that match, but totally destroyed the entire NWO in the WWE angle which could've been epic.

The NWO in the WWF could have been awesome and was actually brought in correctly. They made them mega heels, especially with Hogan hitting the Rock with the semi. I loved all the backstage vignettes. The problem was Hall's drinking(and other personal problems), and Nash's knees were already done(which is why he rarely had singles matches in the WWF/E whatever it was at that point). Otherwise it might have actually worked, even with Hogan turning face.

I knew the nWo was going to be a bust when Nash didn't have an opponent at that years Wrestlemania. From what I understood, that was just an insurance policy in the event Scott Hall screwed up before WM (a true professional, he waited until after WM to screw up).

WWE couldn't have done things any better with how they brought in the nWo. It was just a shame a lot of things beyond their control caused it to fizzle out. It would have been good to have concluded the nWo in some epic way as a finale to one of the biggest factions of all time.
As for turning Hogan face, it was a no-brainer, the fans clearly wanted it. Had WWE persisted in keeping him heel and resisted the face turn, they could have missed the boat big time, and would have been throwing away a perfectly good chance to make a ton of money.
The nWo return would have sold a lot of t-shirts and action figures and got a lot of viewers. A few months later, they probably repeated it all again by selling those same people a Hulkamania shirt and the same action figure painted red and yellow. In all honesty, Hogan, Nash and Hall all had a limited shelf life, WWE got all they could out of each of them.
The only thing I wish we got to see was a Hall run as Razor Ramon one more time. We effectively got 'Big Daddy Cool' again when Nash returned from injury.

I would have loved to have been there watching Vince film that - to see the master at work. It must have been a hoot.

I have a hard time believing that 2/3rds of that crowd were smarks. Besides, I had high original hopes for the WWF NWO too, but I knew it was doomed to fail the first week in when Steve Austin kidnapped Scott Hall, tied him to a chair, and was wheeling him around backstage. Less than a week in, and the NWO was being made to look like chumps by Steve Austin. I knew right then and there the NWO didn't stand a chance.

Hogan is HUGE in Canada, Toronto especially. Watch some of the RAW/Smackdowns he was at the following year after WrestleMania, where the crowd would literally cheer and chant his name 10+ minutes without letting him speak. Some of these actually had to be edited down for television.

I really doubt they all got together and said "OMG let's boo The Rock."

This angle never worked for me mainly because if he really did that mirror trick it would actually say "oWn" on the back of his chair-one WARRIOR nation.

Also, at Mania X-8, it seems apparent that WWE was already going to turn Hogan face BEFORE the show. Nash and Hall turned on Hogan at the end of the match. That would mean WWE already decided to turn Hogan face before Toronto got a chance to cheer him. Of course I am wrong if WWE only decided to do the Hall/Nash thing during the PPV after hearing Hogan's response.
