I never understood the antequated subway systems like Chicago, Boston, and Atlanta. Being used to the DC system, it hard for me to grasp the notion of putting money in to get a token (okay so Chicago is a bit more up to date with this part). Said token was then placed in the turnstyle to unlock it. It was so simple that it was stupid. The station attendant in Boston thought I was drunk - and I was just headed TO the bar that night.
Anyway, why do I find it stupid? Because in Chicago and these other towns, whether I go from Roosevelt (first stop outside the loop) to Wrigley (far on the other side from the loop), or Roosevelt to Library (2 stops max), I pay the same $2. That's why the other towns confused me. It was like "I feel I should be giving you more money, but you don't want it."
