Doesn't look good for Punk if a match with one of the company's biggest stars loses viewers. However, everything including Rhodes and DiBiase gained viewers, which I like.

I never understood how these segment-by-segment things work. I mean, it's not as if you can tell what's going to be on RAW before you turn it back.

I'm guessing the figures released are the net gain or loss that occurred while that segment aired. So while inevitably some people are flipping channels all the time, it gives a rough indication of whether they found that bit of Raw they were watching interesting enough to stay watching it. The real trouble with this kind of minutiae is that figures like a few thousand viewers changing are generated by only a handful of people who have the Nielson machines in their homes, so the margin of error is much bigger than the figure given for the overall rating.
It should only really taken seriously when you see huge spikes like when Mick Foley won his first WWF title, which can be directly attributed to Tony Schiavone announcing it on Nitro, by showing what those people were watching before the announcement. The trouble with people in charge of TV today is that with so much emphasis on ratings that determine advertising revenues they take some of these figures like gospel and try to micro-manage every single second of the show.

Didn't this come up awhile ago? Maybe I read it on a news site, but they broke down that a change for a show witha rating of 4.0, gaining or losing 200,000 really is pretty common and expected on a "variety" style show.

I think most fans knew the title wasn't going to change hands, and would likely end in a DQ, count-out, or some kind of clusterf***, which is what happened. I always lol when I see the 5-10 minutes past 10 pm (central time) get the best ratings. I mean, gained 750,000 viewers?! Jesus Christ!

why do wwe always do an overrun? can't they keep their show in the time they've been given? do all american tv shows do this? in uk you get an amount of time for a tv show and they stick to that time. unless it's a real sport that's went into extra time. could someone explain this overrun concept to me?

No not every American show does that, that's absurd.

If I watch a show, it is on until it ends. Good or bad, I watch a series to completion.

Well sure, all the people watching wrestling are still watching...then you've got the people that tuned in to see whatever comes on next.
