The WWE's got me feeling a bit slighted with their lazy booking for the SummerSlam match between John Cena and Dave Batista. They are, as you know, booking it as a "first ever" meeting between the two. This is an utter fabrication. In reality, these two have had several matches against one onother, with Cena even taking the OVW title from Batista back in 2002. You'd think the WWE could aknowledge this, and give a bit of depth to the feud, instead of being lazy and calling it a "first ever" to get cheap heat.
You'd think a company as well organise as the WWE could get their facts straight, especially involving matches that took place in a promotion they own. It's not like this was a dark match at a disney taping in WCW. This was a high-profile match in a WWE owned promotion for a WWE recognised title, and it even changed hands. I don't believe this is accidental. At the very least, Cean and Batista themselves know they've wrestled before. Instead, I believe it to be an intentional slieght, the product of lazy booking and bad writing.
Any WWE Fan could go on the internet and check to see if they've wrestled before. Many of them would have watched this match as it took place years ago. The WWE knows this. Yet they still piss on us, tell us it's raining, and expect us to believe it.
They could play it off, say Adamle didn't know they'd wrestled before, and have it at that. They could even sya it's the first time they've wrestled in the WWE. But to say it's their first match ever is just bogus, and an insult to my intelligence, as well as the intelligence of every wrestling fan.
There's a built-in conflict too. Cena acts arrogant around Batista because he's beaten him before, and Batsita wants to even the score, but has largely gotten over it. Old wounds are opened when Cena "accidently" strikes Batista, and it comes to a head during their WWE World Tag Team Title match, when Cean acts superior to Batista, ordering him around and not tagging and such to be the "top dog". There's so much more depth. With a team of professional writers, that idea could be taken and ran with. but instead, they were lazy, and are giving us a bogus "first time ever" with no story behind it.
I'm disapointed, WWE. Very disapointed.

Didn't they include the Batista/Cena OVW match on his last DVD?

Didn't they include the Batista/Cena OVW match on his last DVD? I don't think so, I'm pretty sure it was the Cena/Orton match right after Cornette announces Orton's being brought up to the road with WWE full time.

They're not going to do that, it'd be stupid to do that.

OVWhat?

why would they make reference to a different promotion (which no longer has any affiliation with them) where both wrestlers used totally contradictory gimmicks to their current ones, perhaps they dont want to blow kayfabe to smithereens?
wwe rarely mentioned ovw on tv even when they were together, also, 99% of fans havent seen that match or any of their ovw work, you're grossly overestimating how informed the majority of wwe fans are about the bushleagues when you say that 'many have seen that match'
and i highly doubt its a fact checking error, im sure they know all about their meetings in ovw but chose not to mention it which youve really given no reason as to why they should

I'm quite sure it's not a fact checking error. My references to that were largely sarcastic. I know most WWE Fans have never heard of OVW, let alone seen a 6 year old title match, but since when does 'many' mean 'most'? The fact is, even if 1 out of 100 WWE fans have seen that match, it's still hundreds of thousands. And that definately qualifies as 'many'.
Mostly, I'm just upset that they're trying to play a match off as "first ever" when there's a well-publicised match between the people that anyone could find out about. It's a blatant insult to my intelligence.
Even in kayfabe, The Prototype is John Cena, and Leviathan is Batista. It's not a Raisha Saib(or however you spell Awesome Kong's handler's name) and Cheerleader Melissa situation or even a Christopher Daniels and Curry Man, or Smash and Repo Man deal. Those are supposed to be different enbtities in kayfabe. It's more like Steve Lombardi the jobber and The Brooklyn Brawler are the same person in Kayfabe, or Bradshaw and JBL, or Tugboat and Typhoon, or Mortis and Kanyon.
It's lazy, and it's insulting.

When have they ever said in WWE kayfabe Batista and Leviathan are the same person? I think Cena may have mentioned the word Prototype once or twice on WWE TV, not sure.

Not wrestlecrap, just very impatient booking.

It's on the Cena DVD, at the very least. And OVW mentioned when they were called up.
I can imagine how the booking meeting went when they made this match.
Booker 1: Hey, let's do Cena vs. Batista at SummerSlam! Anyone got any ideas?
Booker 2: It'll be the first meeting of the titans! The fans will love it!
Booker 1: Didn't they wrestle in OVW?
Booker 2: meh, no one's gonna check. Let's go get some lunch.
Booker 1: I'm in the mood for Thai food. I know this great place on the corner.
Booker 2: Awesome. Let's get out of here.

Seriously, this is so ridiculous.
Orton would constantly say 'I've never had a one on one championship match with John Cena!' last year.
But OMG! They wrestled at house shows! Anyone could have known that! How lazy!

I rarely ever say stuff like this but, this has to be one of the most pointlessly smarkiest things I've ever read on this forum.

When Orton said that, it was equally insulting to our intelligence. I'm surprised no one's as outraged as I am that a Wrestling Company that promotes fake matches lied about the buildup for one.

Again...you're joking aren't you? The vast, vast majority of fans don't know about house show results, and even less know about OVW match results from 6 years ago! It's the first time the vast, vast majority of people will be seeing this match. It's the first time it's going to be on WWE TV anyway. If they can use it as a selling point, they should. Unless you want them to go 'The first time, except for when they wrestled in a totally inconsequential developmental match 6 years ago'

Surely you're on the wind up here. i refuse to beleive anyone is this stupid/sad to get upset at what is essentially TV. It's really not that important! Go for a walk in the park or enjoy a nice sunset. You're far too highly strung.
