IMO, it's flawed, and I see what Roger Ebert meant when he noted how odd Burton's suburbia looked, making Edward look like an oddball within an oddball setting.
At the same time, I think it's a sweet film.

At the same time, I think it's a sweet film. amazing how someone can at the same time get, and miss, the point. (talking about ebert) yes, edward was different, odd in a way. but the so called 'normal' people, well, they arent so normal either, what with their synchronised lives, uniformity/conformity, underlying competetiveness, jealosy, nosiness and gossiping. also of note is how the artificial man is the least 'phony' person in the town. who knows, maybe im reading too much into it. i like it, as well. its almost like the 'creep' of movies, never met anyone who really dislikes it.

My favourite Tim Burton film, only Ed Wood comes close. One of the only films that is 100% guaranteed to make me cry every time I watch it.
