It's been seven years. And it wasn't a bad idea, just poorly executed.

IF the story does happen, there's one thing that needs to be added:
One of WCW's greatest flaws was that they always drew "battle lines" within the company...and never allowed for neutral ground among main eventers.
Sure, Sting was the "Wild Card", pledging allegiance to no one, and only seeking revenge on Hogan, and Goldberg, for awhile, pledged loyalty to nobody but himself. But, after that, if you were a WCW main eventer, you either sided with Hogan and the nWo, or with the "good side", an amalgam of the Wolfpac and WCW itself.
If TNA did this angle, they'd have to allow for young guys to say that they don't want to be a part of the fight, or for older guys to say they don't agree with Angle/Sting/company. It lets some guys grow in their own way, without HAVING to associate with a certain "faction."
For example, let's say Team Youth is spearheaded by Joe and AJ, and joined by MCMG, LAX, and a few X-Division members (Jarrett possibly acting as a background mentor for some of them), while Team Vet is headed by Angle and Sting, and joined by Booker, 3D, etc. (with teams like Beer Money and guys like Johnny Devine associating with them). Team Youth is pretty radicalized and bent on taking down the old guard, and Team Vet is stubborn, set in their ways, etc.
That could still leave a "neutral faction", guys with no affiliation who sometimes get caught in the middle of the conflict. Sometimes, that's the better way to let guys develop. Did Steve Austin pick a side in the Hart Foundation vs. DX conflict? Did Sting or Goldberg pick a side during the nWo vs. WCW days (sadly, Sting went Wolfpac later)?
You need that breathing room, and expanded opportunities to let guys grow beyond "He's in <insert group name here>! That must mean he's <good, bad, indifferent, etc.>!"

The only way I want this going is Sting and Cornette leading the veterans (Heels) and Joe and Jarrett (as an authority figure) leading the young blood. (faces)
But, I want Jarrett saying "Yea, I started this company, but I'm too old to keep them from taking over. That's why Samoa Joe is in charge. Because you, Joe, and you, A.J., and you, Abyss, and all of you are the guys that built this company. You're the guys that made took us from bein' a two-dollar s***hole in Nashville into the best damn wrestling company on the planet. This isn't my company anymore. It's yours. You keep it, you fight for it. Not for me. For yourselves." And then steps out of the spotlight completely.

I personally think young vs. old is old and just have them as heels vs. faces.
They tried to push the young unestablished guys like Kidman or Stasiak over top guys like Hogan, Sting, Flair and the fans just weren't buying into it. This time around it may be a bit easier as the fans are well familiar with the likes of Joe, Styles, etc.

I like the idea of Home Grown vs. Outsiders (Not meaning Hall and Nash literally). TNA has homegrown talent and some from ROH. Outsiders can be those like Sting, Booker T and others from WWE. That seems to be the way it is heading.

I hadn't seen this thread before but while watching Impact tonight I think that's where they're headed. Jarrett leading the younger guys (or guys that came from other promotions) doesn't make much sence though since he's old and made his name in WCW and WWF first. Maybe he's just coming in to swerve all the young guys then that's what'll kickoff the whole angle.

It can work ONLY IF the young guys aren't protrayed as heels and win. I can really enjoy TNA if its really shooty and its the TNA originals against guys from WWE or WCW.
TNA Guys: AJ Styles Kaz returning from whatever dumb gimmick he's going into LAX Christopher Daniels maybe coming back from Curry Man Samoa Joe Christian (can say he was held down by WWE and became famous in TNA) Rhino (see Christian)
Millionaire's Club: Sting Booker T Kurt Angle Team 3D Scott Steiner

Only the worst kind of idiot does the same thing over and over and expects a different result.
But this is Vince Russo, so I rest my case.
