The only thing worth notice on that pic is the Riki Choshu poster. Now that IS awesome.

I think it refers to Riki Choshu, at least. The Riki name and the arm pose the guy has in the first "I" seem to be normal "Riki Lariat Preparation" pose. I could be wrong though, but it definitevely seems a bit like him in the 80's, during his All Japan period, and All Japan did sent wrestlers to AWA at some point.
I have no certains at this point, though.

Besides this one and the Chi-Town Rumble, what other shows did Meltz attend? Royal Rumble 1990 and 1998. Not sure about what else.

Why didn't Meltzer ever get a job working for Vince if he's such the expert? The guy can't make a good living just spreading the newz can he?

He's a journalist, not a booker or an on-air talent. Although, I think he would be a GREAT heel manager. He's good in front of the camera and kind of has that heel manager look. Picture it: "Mr. Dirtsheet" Dave Meltzer, the evil journalist who has a stable of stiff technical wrestlers. The guy who writes slanderous stories about wrestlers and uses his blood-thirsty charges to protect him from all retaliation. Smell the ratings.

Alright maybe he's too incompentent to get a job working for Vince. My main gist though is how does this guy make a successful living spreading the wrestling newz? Plus how does he get this newz anyways? Does he have a bunch of chronies infiltrate the backstage saga of pro wrestling to spy and send him reports? It all just seems assinine to me.

Alright maybe he's too incompentent to get a job working for Vince He's not incompoetent, he just doesn't have any reason to work for Vince, nor does Vince have any reason to hire him. Knowing a lot about wrestling and the wrestling business doesn't mean one should work for a promotion. Like I said, he's a journalist, not a booker or talent. Vince doesn't need a journalist. He needs bookers and wrestlers. He makes his living the same way other journalists do. It only seems asinine because it's wrestling, and people unfairly look down on wrestling. Like ALL reporters, he has sources and when he gets multiple confirmation he tends to report what he's heard. Meltzer is at the top of his field because (1) he started early, (2) it's a small field, (3) he's a legit journalist who actually does real research, (4) he doesn't intentionally make-up stories, and (5) he's a good prose writer. He's clearly doing something right, as he's friends with many legends (Hart, Foley, Flair, ect) and even wrestlers and promoters who claim to hate dirtsheets regularly read his work. The fact that his newsletter has been shown on TV is very telling. They clearly care about what he does.

I have a question for you if you think it seems so asinine. Do you ever read the "Wrestling News and Notes" thread? Because if you do, then either it isn't so stupid or you should look in the mirror.

Meltzer recently revealed on an F4W radio show that he was in fact on Vince's payroll around 1987 as a researcher. So all the people making their jokes about him being "too incompetent" have no idea what they're talking about. Meltzer always gets lumped into the category of "newz" here because I think it honestly hurts people's feelings sometimes that he doesn't see the product through the same rose-colored glasses a lot of you do. Which is fine. But he's hardly a hack. He's widely regarded by most in the industry as being the only reputable wrestling news guy out there. So, if Vince thought enough of the guy's credentials to hire him, maybe, just maybe, he knows a wee bit more about the sport than the "Historians" of the Wrestlecrap Forums give him credit for.

I read things on the internet in my spare time. I don't have a career spreading the wrestling rumor mill. I don't see how the guy makes any money when everybody just reads everything for free on the net nowadays. You're treading flame territory buddy but I guess I'm more mature than you so won't retalitate to your comment of me being stupid.
