Some times I think why am I a sports fan when alot of times I don't really understand or even know of the stragedies and game play of certain sports I've been watching for years.
For example with American Football( especially U.S. College) I love to watch it but majority of time when the TV announcer says things like "they're in a nickleback formation" or "player in motion at the line" I have no clue to what signifiance I'll be seeing. I just know if the ball crosses the goal line the big score is made. Am I not alone in thinking this way? Will looking things up in book increase my veiwing enjoyment of the sport or just not bother wasting your time?
Wow I'm really off topic.
Sports I don't understand I guess I'll say Cricket. I have no idea what anybody is doing on the field but I get that some people thinks it's important.
There. How long winded. Now what are you Sports you find hard to explain or have an understanding of?

Theres still little things in every sport that still don't make sence to me. Like why do sometimes they have to throw the ball to first to compete the out.

Definitely cricket. I understand rugby, soccer, and lacrosse, but cricket still confuses the ever-loving crap out of me.

You ought to try and explain Arena Football to people. I'm talking about people who are knowledgeable about football. When I have to explain things like Mack and Jack linebackers, the linebacker box, why if you have the ball and hit the wall of your own will you're not out of bounds but if someone knocks you into it you are. A pass off of the wall or net is live...

American Football.
I grew up here and still have problems.
People that weren't born here usually have NO clue on how it's played. It's stop and go, stop and go. Makes no real sense.

American football confuses me than anything else I've ever had to try to learn. What's the deal with all the breaks after someone takes half a step? What's the deal with...pretty much everything involved in this dumb game? If they could go a full 5 minute round or whatever they call it in football lingo without all the lame breaks, perhaps a game could be interesting. And the pads? Take those off, will you? And get commentators who are drunk and ignorant, like that'll spice things up, too. Also, make the fields bigger, give this so-called 'athletes' a real challenge.
Oh, and the tennis scoring as mentioned. It all makes awesome sense, until that gets involved.

When they're in a nickel defense, it just means that they've brought in an extra defensive back, so there are five of them. But I agree, I've watched some cricket and I didn't really know what was going on. Okay, some people I've run into don't understand MMA. I went to a cage fighting event and one gal who was there just didn't understand what was going on. She kept trying to compare it to boxing and I tried to inform her about the ground game. She still didn't get it. And Amateur Wrestling is another sport that I've noticed a lot of people don't get the rules, and especially don't get the scoring.

Cricket. Definitely Cricket. Cricket? Nobody understands cricket. You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket. Marvelous game, really. You see, the bowler hurls the ball toward the batter who tries to play away a fine leg. He endeavors to score by dashing between the creases, provided the wicket keeper hasn’t whipped his bails off, of course.

I know tennis scoring, and I don't even follow it!
Anyway, cricket's definitely at the top of the list. The few times I seen it, I was perpetually confused on how to score period.

Glad to see someone sold the Raphael/Casey scene. But you know, I have never been able to succesfully and fully explain curling to anyone. Too bad I shattered my kneecap. I can never curl again

I know tennis scoring, and I don't even follow it! Anyway, cricket's definitely at the top of the list. The few times I seen it, I was perpetually confused on how to score period. Isn't tennis scoring based on the clock? As is 15 past the hour, 30 past & originally 45 past.... And to make Cricket even more confusing there are different rules for all 3 forms of the game, the 5 day version (international test cricket), One Day Cricket & Twenty20 cricket....
